Play a song that reminds me of my childhood?  I don’t much care for my past.  So, we’re going to do the mini-prompt.  A cover song of a song not usually liked but who’s cover you do like.  Problem with that is I like all forms of music to one degree or another.  I was going to post "Summertime Blues" by T. Rex, but I like the Eddie Cochran version just as well, if not better.  Then I was thinking of Blue Oyster Cult’s cover of "Born to be Wild" but I really enjoy the Steppenwolf version.  I was hard pressed to find any song for which I didn’t like the original.  So, rather than do any of those things I decided to post a less often heard cover of a song that you wouldn’t expect from the artist.  The choice of the song has much personal attachment and really makes me think about my life in general.  The cover is much more powerful for two reasons; one the tempo and instrumentality; two the release of the song within the time line of the cover artists life and his emotional attachment to the message of the song.  So, I give you Johnny Cash’s cover of the Nine Inch Nails song "Hurt."

RYN: True enough; those who compile stats from studies can and do skew results. Since I grew up in downstate New York, I don’t know why I like bluegrass music, but I do.

A song that reminds me of my childhood? “The Wayward Wind” sung by Gogi Grant, “How Much is That Doggie in the Window” sung by Patti Paige, “Sh-Boom,” sung by The Crew Cuts. You will, of course, have no clue what I’m talking about.
