Devices of the mind

I miss having a good raging debate.

I also miss building things. Though I had a dream about charging an area of sand with static electricity to increase the ambient EMF in an attempt to induce hallucinations.

At least I think that’s what the intent of the device was, big copper rod with this box thing on it that had four mirrors forming an X with prisms in front of two of the mirrored edges inside of it. The front of the box had magnifying glasses on the four sides and the mirrors set into a metal disc that sat on a ring bearing. The top had a scoop style wind mill set perpendicular to the rod such that when it caught wind the mirrors inside spun creating alternating patters of light, dark, and separated light, then the rod was inserted into the earth in a ring of sand and granite with another rod coming off of the first and into a pit of sand connected to a web of wires that ran under the sand and connected to a wire loop with copper wiring wrapped around it thousands of times.

I suppose the principle behind it is that during periods of high atmospheric electric activity the rod would absorb some of the energy and transfer it along the wiring charging the sand (?) and meanwhile the mirrored box would produce a strobe effect that if someone were to watch would possibly induce a trance-like state. This coupled with the high static charge could feasibly cause a person to hallucinate. At least closed eye hallucinations I suppose.

I want to do research into the psychological effects of prolonged exposure to static charge is.

Another thing I want to look into is what the results of the flickering light would be, surly it would cause eye fatigue and in a dark setting if there was a light source on the other side of the object would cause the mind to fill in the blanks for images.

Or maybe I’ll just build the thing and see what it does.

Hmm. Interesting. So, for me to have college level writing I need to have a wider vocabulary? –cissy

I miss the great debate too. 🙂 Neat about the dream, who’d have thunk it? Anyway, if ever you shall feel the need for the debate you may contact me any way you wish. Well, I was going to post my contact information on here but you don’t allow private notes. 🙁 I will make a friends entry to accommodate that problem.

RYN: I’m currently transcribing a special lecture I gave recently about light. When it’s done I’ll put it up on my diary. It’ll include a section on what you were asking.

If you miss it, perhaps you should give it a call.
