Cathedral Sweatshirts??

I made my first Cathedral Sweatshirt back in 1996 (give or take a year) and I believe I made about 4-5 then. I even made one for a friend at Roadhaven, and completely forgot about the gift until we stayed in our home there these past two months. I mentioned that I would be teaching a class on Cathedral Sweatshirts at the Creative Crafts Club and she brightened and said, "Remember the one you made for me?? I love it!! I wear it all the time!" I have to interject with outragious laughter here because I rarely remember things that I create for others. Once they’re made and given, they’re out of my head/memory/mind. Kind of like writing… it occurs to me as I write this that I don’t usually remember what I’ve written. Once it’s out there, that’s it.

But I digress. Here’s the ‘original’ Cathedral Sweatshirt (I learned how to make these charming sweatshirt modifications from Patti Fuerer’s  Surface Textile Design Class).

And here’s another variation that I created. I think I may have seen a variation of this style before, but can’t swear to it. For sure, this is the only ones made with this fabric!

As you wash the garment over and over again, the cuts continue to curl away from the center of each little window and the flowers in the fabric show up more clearly. It turned out to be a very subtle, feminine look for a sweatshirt. I made 5 of these as gifts or as requested for friends there at the park. I also wound up altering three pair of pants and mending the strap on a fanny-pack. I kept busy, that’s for sure.

Here’s a photo I took of the moon at sunset over the Superstition Mtns.

It’s blurry, but you can see the gorgeous colors in the sky. My poor little 5 meg. camera isn’t that good with long distances. But it was too beautiful not to capture and share. Here’s a clearer picture of the Superstition Mountains.

Be safe, be well and please be happy. Love one another, it’s the best thing in all the world and it’s free. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them.
