I Know it’s Summer Because it’s HOT!

I know, you can’t have summer weather without the heat, but really… I would have accepted that it was summer without it being this hot, for goodness sake. I was up in the wee hours (3:45 a.m., to be precise) due to leg cramps, and managed to get quite a bit done. I sorted out pinto beans, pressed fabric and cut the blocks for the second quilt block from last month’s quilt guild pattern, worked on the Depot web site a bit (I’m the assistant webmaster now), and took out the kitchen trash. I also downloaded a good half dozen books to be read on my Kindle. I now have over 380 books stored on it.

We have cloudy skies, and hot, hot sunshine. I’ve got a date in B-field this coming Monday, and am not looking forward to it. It’s supposed to be somewhere in the 108 -114 temperature range and that’s way too  warm for this chickadee.

I got another package from my sister yesterday. It had patriotic pens, pins, pencils, a set of 10 Christmas cookie cutters in a plastic storage container, three flour sack dish towels, and a book on Cake Pop desserts. She’d sent me the cake pop pans before Christmas last year so the cookbook was a follow up to that. There was also a pink plastic container of "Lady Anti Monkey Butt" Anti Friction Powder (with Calamine, no less). I don’t know where she finds this stuff, but it’s always a hoot to open a box from her. One time she’d sent me lip balm called "Chicken Poop." I opened it, gave it a sniff and did a total pass on it. On the other hand, this anti-Monkey Butt powder smells rather nice — if you can get past the name, it might come in handy with these hot, hot days!

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but at our quilt guild meetings we have what’s called a "Freebie" table. If you have anything sewing or quilting related that you no longer want, you put it on the Freebie table. When the meeting is over, I take anything left on the table to the local thrift store. Before I joined and started donating the leftovers, they would just toss everything into the trash at the end of the meeting. At the last meeting there was a fabric panel to make an apron, complete with a pocket panel sewn to the front. I happened to pick it up and brought it home with me. I cut it out, stitched it together and it came out kind of neat. DH modeled it for me. The tie at the left side is a double D ring set so  it can adjusted high or low as needed. I’ve sent it along to my sister in Texas. I hope she likes it. She can collect eggs with it as the pockets are quite deep, and it has that Southwest Cactus look to it.

That’s all the news that’s fit to report for now. Be safe, be well and please be happy. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them.

Oh I like that apron! and the Monkey Butt! The Chicken Poop reminds me of when jelly bellies came out in disgusting flavors for kids. I tried the black pepper one because it was the least disgusting! Yuck!

I’ve seen the chicken poop chap stick before but this is a new one.

You do sound busy, happy, and hot. It’s in the 80’s here at the beach, and in the hundreds inland. Questions: Do you have a Kindle Fire? How much do the books cost? What do you do with the books once you read them.

Your sister has quite a sense of humor! I love the fact that your DH agreed to model the apron. It really looks nice and I bet your sister in TX will enjoy it.
