Gerty.. (18)…Halloween (part one)
Johnny did not have time to appraise the situation quickly enough to intervene on Gerty’s condition. The man in the clown suit made the fatal decision to get to his feet and step towards the pretty vampire girl. Gerty had her knife in hand and plunged deep into the man’s chest. Gerty did not release the knife and pinned the stunned man to the dressing room wall. Gerty came nose to nose with the clown man and said,
"how bout that bite you were talking about?"
The zombie yelled out,
"What the fuck lady!"
Reaching out to grab Gerty the zombie man was slammed against the partition of the dressing room by Johnny to protect Gerty and possibly save him from getting slashed. Gerty ripped the knife from the man’s chest and stabbed him again in his eye socket. Gerty pulled away and threw the man to the floor.
The women in the dressing room hearing the commotion came through the dressing room door to see the carnage and started screaming. Gerty turned to the other man pinned by Johnny and said,
"Happy Halloween motherfucker."
Johnny released the man and came between Gerty and the others grabbing her by both arms and looked deep into her eyes to get her back to the real world.
"Gerty, you have to go to the car now. Just go and drive. I have to get you out and get this under control."
Johnny took her knife with no resistance from Gerty and brandished it at the group. Johnny gathered up Gerty clothes and gently pushed her out of the dressing area back into the store. The witnesses to the stabbing wanted nothing to do with the pair and were backed to the far wall. Johnny warned
"If you fuckers want to live shut up and stay where you are."
Gerty looked at Johnny and said,
"No Johnny, I can’t leave without you."
Johnny replied,
"If we go together we’ll have a ton of witnesses of the car and the cops right on us. You have to get out of the parking lot. I’ll get out and you’ll find me. I trust you but you have to go and go now."
Gerty sensed Johnny’s urgency and planted a kiss firmly on his lips and turned and walked towards the front exit. Gerty pulled the hand gun from her roll of clothes and held it to her side. Gerty made no effort to hide the gun and acted as though everything was normal except for the hard scowl on her face. Gerty had not been away from Johnny’s side other than briefly and the world was at fault for tearing them apart.
Walking toward the exit she passed the cash registers and a twenty-something male employee yelled,
"Hey lady, you have to pay for that costume."
Gerty turned and raised the gun and shot the man in the face. Gerty said,
"Keep the change." and strolled out the door into the night.

Johnny knew he was in deep shit as he kept things quiet in the dressing room. He heard the pop of the 22 and thought the police would soon be at the door. The knife would keep people off of him but cops with handguns would not be nearly impressed.
"Here’s the deal boys and girls, I suggest to you that any thoughts of being a star witness here is going to get you and your family very dead. If you think that little girl is going to let this go you are mistaken. She will hunt you down and kill you and everything that you love. Be happy that you are alive and go live your lives."
The group nodded their approval of the plan and one eyed corpse on the dressing room floor was affirmation that the suggestion was very wise.
Sirens started to sing in the background as numerous cell phone calls from store patrons clogged the 911 lines about the dead cashier laying in the check out aisle up front.. Johnny ordered his hostages to get running to the door with his warnings still ringing in their ears. Getting out with the onlookers seemed his best chance with the hope no one was ready to point a finger at him as responsible for the killings. Johnny threw his knife as they ran up the aisle and prayed he could disappear into the darkness of the night like Gerty may have.

Gerty believed in Johnny and if Johnny said get away then that was what she was going to do. But as she raced down the street she already was wondering what to do to get him back. Johnny had to come back. Johnny and her were forever. There will be no just Gerty. There is Johnny and Gerty. Gerty decided she needed to stop and gather herself as she was driving farther away from Johnny and she knew there will never be far away from Johnny. Gerty pulled off what was a well-lighted main drag through whatever town she was in and searched for a dark place to park and make a plan. The residential street offered plenty of places to park. Gerty puled over and brought the Camaro to a halt.
Gerty remembered Johnny stopped to steal another car so she knew she should do that before she went back to find Johnny. She also needed to get back to regular clothes as people saw her leaving the store in vampire dress and make up so changing her appearance was important.
Gerty lost her concentration and faded back into the darkness. It was different. The daddio’s still dwell here and so did the memories of what daddio’s do to you. But Johnny was here too and Johnny made the daddio’s fade away. But Johnny was fading away too. Johnny could kill the daddio’s once and for all. If Johnny kills the daddio’s Gerty will have no more daddio’s to kill. Then Gerty will just have Johnny. Gerty was willing to kill all the daddio’s that got in the way of getting Johnny then the daddio’s will be gone forever.

Johnny burst through the doors with his group of eye witnesses and slowed down to not look too eager to get from the lookieloos. The shoppers had no idea what happened in back and were all about the little vampire girl who cold blooded murdered the cashier over a costume. The police had just pulled into the parking lot and had no idea who may be a witness, victim or responsible party. The officers directed everyone to back up and Johnny slowly backed himself away from the scene to shuffle off into the dark of night.

Gerty did know how long she had sat but eventually she surveyed her surroundings and her need to get Johnny back. Change clothes and get a car. Johnny usually stole the cars so Gerty was concerned about what to do. Gerty reached in the back and grabbed her back pack and noticed three teenage boys leaning on the hood of a vehicle three or four cars behind her. Gerty thought it was time to go have a chat with the locals.
Ryn: so stop moping for those who aren’t here anymore! Move on, Derek. You said so yourself, ie concentrate and focus on those who are here, not those who get away. There are new cool friends out there. People whom weren’t visible before but can be seen now. Make new friends. In addition to keeping the present ones happy 🙂
