Gerty (16)
Johnny drove away from the farmhouse with a sense of amazement and confusion. The two men lived to see another day. Gerty was not the forgiving kind and Stu tried to rape her and yet there he was standing by the garage, not shot or carved up. He was beat up pretty bad and was missing part of his nose but this day was one of the luckiest days of his life.
Johnny was glad to be off and away and Gerty seemed to feel the same. They made quick time of the dirt road and were back on pavement to westward destinations unknown.
Gerty had a leg tucked under her and was leaning towards Johnny trying to be a distracting and amorous as possible. Getting Gerty to buckle up and sit forward was about as likely as having her spout wings and fly. Gerty leaned into Johnny’s ear and murmured.
"Whatcha fuckin doin Johnny?
Gerty lightly bit on his earlobe as her right hand shot down and gave Johnny and memorable grab.
"Ya fuckin drivin Johnny? You’re drivin the wrong thing Johnny."
Even though Johnny heart had picked up a bit he aspired to remain out of the ditch and wanted to put a few more miles between them and the old farmhouse. Gerty was not to be easily dissuaded so Johnny offered,
"You’re right sweetheart but let’s get down the road a bit and maybe find a place to stretch out and really enjoy the night. I’m covered in sweat and dirt and would like to clean up first."
Gerty was still on Johnny and purred ,
"Sweaty and dirty is exactly what I was thinking anyway."
Johnny belted out a laugh and the both of them broke into belly laughs. Gerty fell back into her seat and seemed satisfied with how the moment ended.
Thirty miles later Gerty was back out of her seat but this time she was scrounging the back seat to get her bag to the front. She opened the bag and seemed content to poking around but never took anything out. Eventually she stopped and looked at Johnny and asked:
"All this time we’ve been together you never have looked through my pack have you Johnny?"
Johnny had wondered many times what was in the pack but felt it was a very private matter for Gerty. He resisted the temptation to pull everything out and examine how this magic pack seemed to provide for all of Gerty’s needs, She defended herself with it including killing all she saw as a threat or a daddio. Her supplies seemed endless including her money.
Johnny replied:
"Never been in there but I’d be lyin to tell you I don’t wonder what’s all in there. It’s like a magician hat. I never know what you’re going to pull out of there."
Gerty had that irresistible smile on her face and said;
Well, let’s take a peek shall we?"
Johnny was surprised how this had come up and shocked Gerty was going to show him the pack. Gerty immediately started flinging her clothes as they were not items of interest. Eventually she had cleared the pack of her clothes and sat for a moment in silence.
Johnny spoke first.
"Gerty I got ask you about all your money first. You haven’t been robbing anyone lately but you sure seem to have a never ending supply of cash."
Gerty nodded and replied;
Johnny, we never have to worry about cash, Yep, I take from those daddio’s but after I got out of the hospital some nice lawyers told me the court’s decided everything that was my parentsis mine. Sold everything Johnny, The house and everything. Daddio did stuff with real estate so it was alot. I got some cards in here for the bank too. Lots of money. Don’t care much about it though, but it’s good not to worry."
Johnny stopped worrying about money awhile ago once he decided to believe that he would never have much.
"So what else you got in there babe?"
Gerty pulled the straps fully pack and said;
"Take a looky."
Johnny leaned over a bit as Gerty hit the overhead lights. Inside the bag Gerty had sewn in a belt with ten maybe twelve loops that held a variety of knives and handguns. It was easy to see that anyone could easily slip their hand in the bag and there would be the hilt of a knife or the butt of a pistol ready for action.
"Damn Gerty, that’s a hell of a setup you got there!"
Gerty’s smile hardened a bit and replied,
"That’s a hellava set "we" got there Johnny. You’re a keeper Johnny and you and me are together to the end right?"
Johnny made no pause at the question.
"Damn right Gerty. To the end. "
For the first time Johnny felt sure there would be Gerty and there would never be anyone else. Who could ever replace what he had with Gerty? For the first time in his life Johnny spoke words that he had vowed would never be spoken.
"I love you Gerty."
Gerty was silent and for a moment Johnny felt uncomfortable that the words were a mistake. Finally he took a peek in Gerty’s direction. Gerty was sitting sideways in her seat with her arms around her pack held tight. Her head lay against the headrest and her eyes shimmered with tears yet to fall.
A man who watched her murder and heard her secrets loved her. Nothing would come between them she swore to herself.
Nothing.
“Nothing!” “Nothing comes out of nothing.” “Speak again!” King Lear’s Shakespeare But her nothing was so assertive, so great. Gerty is amazing. Your writing too. Enjoy Saturday!

The “nothing” she is whispering of sounds ominous. Just like Gerty herself! ….. 🙂

I’m so sorry for the lack of replies. Been so busy with coursework and OD hasn’t been working for me very well. I actually have put on a lot of weight I’m not happy about and am going to start a healthier eating plan as of tomorrow. Hope you are well x
