Ok, don’t be cruel …

I saw this (below) on one of the other diaries I read and thought I’d give it a shot, just for fun. I wish it were really true but it reminded me of certain things about myself that I’d like to change.
 
I mean, I do love the spiritual quest I’m on and I do love to "assist" anyone who might find my thoughts helpful and I do love to learn from others in the same way.

However, I haven’t quite learned how to keep my mouth shut in those situations where my thoughts may not be welcomed. In fact, many times I can’t even recognize those situations until I see some angst on their face, or hear it in their voice. Of course, here on OD you I cannot "see," nor "hear" angst.
 
It’s a seductive place I find myself in on occasion; because I’m often told, what I have to say is helpful and that so strikes at who I am. It allows me to observe that I just might be of value or “giving back!” Important for the child in me who was taught he was worthless.
 
When I’m speaking directly with someone, I occasionally use the phrase “Would you like some input on that or are you just venting and want me to listen?” (Picked up from my read of Men Mars, Women Venus.) That works pretty well with men who are always looking for input on what they’re talking about or we wouldn’t be talking about it … not really always, but you get my drift. 
 
Women on the other hand are much more problematic (to me, as a man.) They frequently speak about something just to vent and are not asking for input but they will often say they want input (in response to my question) when they do not; kind of a, "I didn’t want to hurt his feelings," response. Other women instinctively recognize this and just know to listen and reinforce … “Oh that asshole!”
 
My challenge is to become more proficient at speaking my truth … gently.  A challenging task for a Taurus!
