North Pole

Maybe there was summer love
but now I’m frozen at your feet
once again, I’m begging for
a man my passion won’t defeat

and you, in all your quiet dark
don’t reach out for my pulsing heart
don’t hear its battered battle cries
don’t feel the pain of those re-starts

So have I erred in giving off
the warmth that has survived in me?
To thaw each man whose lips are cold
until I’m nothing but  North Pole

Until I’m icebergs in the sea
afloat and breaking off while he
don’t like to swim those watery
descents into love’s bravery

it’s fearlessness, its endless rush
romance that drowns and that destructs
but that sustains girls born to swim,
and kills them when he just wades in.
