Now and Then

Why do you try, now that it’s over?
Why are you offering all those things
that I begged for when I loved you?
Then, you couldn’t part with them.

Now it’s years that I’ve been gone
You feel a change, you feel a movement
in your soul. You say you finally  have surrendered
to the love you had and left for years untended
and all you once despised, now you’ve befriended

But everything you say to me 
is just an echo of the freedom that I had
before I ever loved you
and  even ‘tho I tried, I know I can’t bring back what’s died,
and so the darkness is the best that I can give you
oh that darkness that you left me to hold on to.
