Walked and Talked and Teched out!

So, tonight I finally got off of my (fat) ass and walked on the treadmill. A total of 2,500 steps in my goal to reach 10,000 steps per day and then eventually get to the point where I am running those 10,000 steps. I don’t see that happening soon though. Maybe 6 months from now.

But, I did walk those 2,500 steps at 3 m.p.h. and, when I reached 1,300 steps, I increased the incline from 0 to 1 and then did 500 steps at 3.5 m.p.h. That’s some serious walking there and I can still feel it in my legs.

The reason I did the 2,500 instead of the 2,000 is because I haven’t walked on the treadmill since Friday evening. I’ve got to make up for those lost days and, surprisingly, I don’t feel terribly bad after adding the additional steps. Now, I’ll just maintain that level until Friday and then to 3,000 starting Saturday. If things work out well, I’ll be at 10,000 by Halloween.

I had to call Dell last night to get parts sent in for my Vostro 1700 laptop though. The screen has had a scratch on it for about 9 months that is annoying at worst and one of the USB ports on it is intermittent (sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t). But the kicker on the call was when the space bar lost its stroke and wasn’t moving like it should and I pried it off of the keyboard to clean out underneath it. Yeah, I know, sounds dumb but it can be done with every key on a laptop keyboard…except the space bar. It just won’t go back on like the others will.

So, I called and they are sending a technician out to my home to replace the motherboard, screen and the keyboard on my laptop (don’t you just LOVE extended warranties?) and I am waiting for the tech to call any day now. I’d love to have it fixed before the weekend.

My birthday is coming up and, since my AT&T contract will be upgradeable as of the 17th of this month, I have decided what I want for my birthday. Gina and I have talked about it and, as soon as we can afford one, I am getting the iPhone as my birthday present. I am very excited about it and have already downloaded iTunes and have, as of right now, 32 apps downloaded and ready to put onto my iPhone. All of the apps that I’ve gotten are the free ones. I’m waiting until I actually have the iPhone in hand before buying any apps.

Gina will also be getting an iPhone as her Christmas present since her contract can be upgraded at the beginning of December. She’s looking forward to that also but says that she’s not as “obsessed” with the idea as I am. I’m not so much as “obsessed” as she thinks but extremely interested in the potential of the device. I have heard a lot of good things about the iPhone.

Till Next Time,

You are smart to work up to those 10,000 steps a day rather than killing yourself and giving up. 😉

RYN: well i read your diary so the background was fine. The ones with the animated gif backgrounds I never got past the page loading before moving on 🙂 Get a step counting gadget, they are relatively cheap in target or maybe sports shop if you look for the basic ones. Then just wear it all day, they sort of make you feel obligated to take the stairs instead of lift or escalators etc. My office is upstairs in my house and often i have put off going downstairs to get something thinking i can just manage till later, but with the step counter i’m less likely to put it off. It makes more difference than you’d think. Obviously i mean to use this as an aside to the 10,000 steps plan on the treadmill

RYN: it’s going to be called ‘and another thing’ and it’s out in October by Hyperion in the US and Penguin in the UK. I’m planning on getting my copy from amazon.co.uk to get the UK copy. (i’m English, but live in US)
