Out in the open
Last night, I made a decision.
It was a good decision. Really it was.
So, what I decided to do was to begin losing weight. I am going to be 38 years old in less than a month and I am so terribly out of shape that Im using sayings like round is a shape to make excuses for NOT being healthy.
I take 80mg of Zestril (alpha blocker lowers the pressure by thinning the blood) a day. 25 mg of Coreg (beta blocker lowers my heart rate). An 81mg aspirin. I weigh over 300 pounds. Ive been in the hospital once already for chest pain that turned out to be gastrointestinal instead. I have NO idea what my cholesterol is because all the meds that my doctor wants to put me on (statins) have caused problems with me so he doesnt do the test. No point I guess.
Im a walking time bomb of a heart attack.
So, last night I got onto the treadmill that we got from Meagan and started the 10,000 steps program. My plan was to start off slow, which is recommended, by only walking 1,000 steps a day for a week and then upping that by 1,000 steps every week until I reached my goal.
Well, that plan failed.
Tonight, I set the treadmill to go the 1,000 steps that I wanted at about 2.4 mph and walked. When I was done, I felt like I wasnt done. So, I set in for another 1,000 steps and proceeded to double my goal for the day.
It felt good.
It looks like Ill be starting out at 2,000 steps first and then going up from there.
My goal is to eventually get my weight down to the typical 225 pounds that I should be near and lower my cholesterol and my blood pressure. By my birthday in 2010.
Im going to do it. For myself, my wife and the rest of my family.
Till Next Time,
Good for you! I got a call from my doctor on Thursday. She said my cholestrol had gone up 20 points again. She wasn’t happy. So I guess it’s back to fruits, salads a veggies for me!

you should still get your cholesteral done so you can see how high your good cholesteral is and have a starting point. Regardless of the weight loss and if you need to continue with the meds…it’s probably a good idea to continue with the low dose aspirin. Good luck with the program. Id never heard about it.

Have you gotten a pedometer? We do a pedometer challange at work and the first week you wear it and just do your normal stuff. At the end of the week you get your average steps per day and then set your goal based on that number. Its amazing how many steps you take daily that you don’t even realize…lol Good Luck and I will be right a long with you once I am able to walk on both feet again
