Cold Cache(s)

Despite the cold, (sometimes freezing) rain and wind that welcomed me home yesterday – and, as a side note, I am offering a reward to whomever can put my hands on the person that turned the thermostat down before I got home – I got to go geocaching with a friend of mine, Al.

I ended up finding a total of 7 yesterday in the Memphis area, Tyro, MS area and at Lake Enid. Mainly the rain was in the Memphis area, but it did follow us down from there. Here are a few pictures that I got of a couple of interesting things I saw.

This tree caught our eye and just made us stop in our tracks. It’s interesting to see how they’ve “grown” together but they aren’t grown into each other.

A closer look of the previous picture. Trees tend to do this when growing at the same rate and in competition for the same area and, when one grows directly on another, it’s called symbiosis. However, if they grow up and began to intertwine, they are usually called “lover’s tree” and, typically, if one dies or is removed for some reason, the other generally dies also.

Just on the other side of this tree, I did a little bit of “mud skiing.” Lot’s of fun and I would recommend everyone trying it at some time in their lives. But, the root system of this tree caught my attention also.

While near Lake Enid, we cut across from the trail to get to the first of three caches that we were going after in the immediate vicinity and came across this old well. I had personally never seen a well like this before so, of course, I was fascinated.

Fascinated so much that I stuck my head over it and looked down into it. There wasn’t any water at the bottom (as you can see) but it did look like there was a cave or something down there. Al is a caver and I suggested that he jump down there and go exploring, but he declined. I guess he was wondering how he’d get back up to the surface.

Al drove to Memphis to pick me up becausee I had to put my truck into the shop at Freightliner there this time. A few problems that, apparently, Marten’s shops can’t seem to get fixed. No big deal to me though and Gina likes it as she has her parking space for a little while longer.

Tonight, we’re headed out to her mother’s house for dinner and other things there and then tomorrow is a lazy day since no one is going to be coming over tomorrow and we’re not going anywhere until later in the afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great holiday and that Santa brings you everything you wished for.

Blessed Be and Happy Holidays!

The photos are awesome. One of the things that I like best about geocaching is the fact that they tend to lead us to interesting places that we would never notice otherwise. Merry Christmas to you and your wife…

Very interesting pictures. I can hardly wait for spring so Don and I can go rock hunting and hopefully come across some oddities like these. Thanks for sharing. Eat much, relax and enjoy the holiday!
