Whirlwind Weekend

profile for riverwolfe

It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend for me, but nice in its own way. But, to tell the story, I need to go back into last week and come forward to now.

For some reason that’s known to the majority of the civilized world, freight is slow. And I don’t mean just slow, I mean S. L. O. W. So much so that I was able to get home last weekend and then left out on Sunday to make a delivery in La Vergne, TN.

Then Monday rolled around and I had to go to the shop to get a couple of things fixed at the TA Truck Stop there in La Vergne and then I sat. And sat. And sat…until Tuesday when I headed out that evening towards Newbern, TN (just north of Dyersburg) and picked up a load headed for Macon, GA.

Well, on the way towards Macon, my dispatcher wanted me to send a message to get the service done on my truck in Forest Park, GA. I really didn’t want to as the last time I was there, I was there for 5 days. But, being a company driver requires that I follow instructions and I did what I was asked and told the shop that I would be there on Wednesday evening at approximately midnight.

Well, I arrived earlier than I anticipated and got to the shop at about 7 p.m. Unfortunately, they were unable to get me into the shop that evening and I had to wait until Thursday and then I was in the shop three different times between Thursday morning and Friday morning.

So, as of Friday morning, I was ready to roll. However, the closest load pick up time for me was Monday morning (today). Well, well, another four days in Forest Park. Surprised?

So, while talking on the phone with my lovely wife, I mentioned something in passing about getting a rental car and driving home for the weekend. And, so I did. I found a rental agency close by – 5 miles or so away – and made the reservation online and packed up a bag, grabbed my laptop and headed out to get the car. And then I drove home.

All told, it cost $47.37 for the rental car for two days (Friday night to Sunday night) and an additional $45 for the gas to get me there and back. And I got to enjoy some time at home.

I was able to get my new prescription for my glasses when I was home so now I can also see where I am and where I’m going. But, I’m not wearing the glasses. I’m wearing the contacts I also got a prescription for and I’m enjoying that immensely. No more glasses for me and I can finally wear some sunglasses that aren’t prescription and actually look decent.

I’ll get some pictures of myself with the old glasses, new glasses (with the magnetic sunglasses part) and the contacts and cool sunglasses posted soon enough. It’s just not going to happen today.

Till Next Time,
Blessings!

I know things like this kill you income-wise, but I’m glad you got some time at home!

I can’t even imagine having to deal with lags in time (and money!) like that. Great idea to head home in a rental! Glad you could do so. BB and take care,

I love contacts although I hate the put in take out part so I wear the three month disposables. I can put them in, sleep in them, leave them in for up to 3 months and then put in a new pair. Perfect for me. And…seeing where you are and where you are going is a good thing.

Good for you! I’ll bet the wife was glad to see you. Be careful out there on those winter highways!
