after hours
I haven’t written since christmas.
on boxing day my laptop died a terrible death. I’ve had it since 2006 and apparently laptops don’t have a very long life expectancy, so i’m told it did quite well to last 6 years. It tried reloading windows like I’ve done before when it’s crashed, but it came up with lots of new error messages, in short, it was fucked.
It couldn’t have been better timing though, what with all the January sales.
The next day i went over to currys and PC world and got myself a bargain.
I refused to speak to ANY sales people, because I’m quite impressionable.
Ben told me what I was looking for, so I went in feeling quite informed and actually knowing what I was looking at for a change.
Ideally he would have come with me, but he’s only back on the 4th and it really couldn’t wait.
So I ended up getting this HP laptop. Most of the ones I was looking at seemed to have 4GB memory, but this one had 6GB!
And it has a 640GB hard drive, which with my 500GB external hard drive means I have over 1TB of memory.. what am I going to do with all that space!?
It was £500 and marked down to £349! Whoo hoo.
And it’s red. I wasn’t keen on the red, but I’ll get over it.
Now for the downside. My old laptop was running on Windows XP and this one has windows 7 and it’s taking me forever to get used to it.
I’m like an old person, I don’t like change.
the worst part is I’ve got all these fucking photos to edit and no editing program.
I’ve always used Photoimpact but I’ve tried downloading it twice and it just won’t work.
So I downloaded GIMP because it’s the only other free editing program I know is decent and now I hate it.
Well I don’t hate it, I’ve just never used it before and I don’t know what I’m doing and it’s really frustrating.
Last wednesday Rach came over and we baked. We made lemon and poppy seed cake and watched bad TV.
She got the humming bird bakery cookbook for christmas (it’s famous apparently, I’ve never heard of it).
So we’re going to have a monthly baking date, making various delicious things from her new book.
Friday I went to work. I did a flight to Latvia and had to break up a fight!
There were 2 guys, who were quite drunk and being really loud.
They were getting on my nerves, standing up and in my way all the time while I was trying to work.
At one point they started singing, I was just on my way to tell them to shut up and I heard lots of shouting and screaming.
There was this old man sitting in the row behind them and he just lost it and started screaming at them, telling them to shut up and shouting things like "you’re killing me! You stupid Russian bastards". And then he started crying lol. what the fuck.
After a while we moved the old man and his wife to the other side of the plane.
Jeez.
New years eve was pretty uneventful.
I’d been invited out with people from work, and with girls from roller derby, but the thought of going out was just not appealing.
So instead I went next door and sat with my brother and his girlfriend.
We had some drinks, had a cheeseboard, chatted and then watched the London fireworks at 12.
Very low key and sort of perfect.
I was home by 12:15 and then Niks and I spent an hour online planning her pretend wedding via a series of emails and links.
I spent the rest of the night chatting to Ben on MSN.
Got to bed at about 6am and then spent a further half an hour having rather filthy textsex. What a way to see the new year in eh?
I had to work on new years day. Just a flight to Dublin and back. I was at work for just 3½ hours. Most pointless shift ever.
And here we are!
I guess it’s always this time of year that calls for resolutions.
All mine are sort of connected to Ben.
1. We were chatting online and made a promise to eachother, I’m going to take more photos if he promises to write more. Photography and writing is something we enjoy (respectively), but neither of us seem to have any sort of self confidence. So we’re going to support and encourage eachother. (haha, that sounded much less lame in my head)
2. Sex. we have grand plans to make 2012 our year of exciting, new, and sometimes very dirty, sex. We’ve created a very long list of new things to try.
I’ve spent quite a lot of money on lovehoney over the last 2 weeks in preparation 😀
I’m debating keeping a sex journal on here in favourites only entries, but I’m not sure yet.
3. Money. We have to start seriously paying off the last of our debts and saving money for traveling. It’s 2 years till we leave now and we’ve got a lot of money to save. So we’ve both promised to try and cut down on unnecessary spending and putting away as much as we can.
Happy new year y’all.

3 great resolutions! If you have any specific questions about how to do things in Gimp, I’d be glad to answer… It’s pretty overwhelming at first, so it’s hard to leave a note that’s a good “start here” point because there are so many places to start. As I’m sure you’ve realized. But, yeah, I’ve edited photos in Gimp for years, so I do know a thing or two.
Warning Comment
