NoJoMo 9
I’ve been on home standby for work today so I was kind of house bound for the day, plus Ben had the car so I definitely couldn’t take my chances and pop out because I wouldn’t have had enough time to get the bus.
A day at home with no chance of leaving was just what I needed though.
Managed to tidy up and put away stuff that’s been lying around for weeks and was really bothering me.
I still had all the zombie walk stuff in the lounge and about 4 books by my bed, all of which had a bookmark in or around page 20.
Did all the ironing. All the dishes. Washed Elroy’s drinking fountain.
Took the mountain of recycling downstairs. Sorted out all the clutter in the spare room.
I did a lot more than that but this list is really boring, I’ll stop there.
I’m on home standby again tomorrow and I’ve managed to do everything I needed to do today!
I’m hoping I can fill tomorrow with taking photos with my pinhole camera, scrapbooking and general arts and craftiness.
In other words, something other than tv and facebook.
Since my day was so dull.. today’s questions:
1. Write about any collections you have. Why do you collect that? How did your collection get started?
When I was younger I collected plastic bags. I had one bag from every shop I could get one from. My aunt even sent me plastic bags in the post from England. At my last count I had something like 900.
When my family moved to the UK I insisted my bags came with me. My parents paid to have 2 massive cardboard boxes full of plastic bags shipped with the rest of our stuff. Now they’re collecting dust in the attic of my mom and dad’s house haha.
I don’t collect anything anymore. Maybe sheep things. I like sheep. People who knew me caught onto the fact that I quite liked sheep and I started getting lots of sheep themed gifts for my birthdays.
2. Write out your usual morning routine.
Depends if I’m working or not.
If I’m on earlies-
Press snooze for about 10 minutes. Wash my face. Do my make up. Do my hair.
Have breakfast. Brush my teeth. Get dressed. Pack my lunch etc. Leave for work.
If I’m not working or on a late shift-
Laze about in bed for a little while. Usually have a shower (If I’m on earlies I usually shower before I go to bed on account of having to get up at about 4am, getting up earlier to shower just isn’t very appealing)
Usually eat breakfast while watching some bad daytime tv or checking various online things. Maybe have a coffee.
I’m not sure I really have a routine when I’m on doing an early shift.
3.What is your favorite holiday and why? What are some of the traditions you/your family observes for that holiday? Special foods? Costumes?
I don’t have a favourite holiday.
I hate christmas. I stopped celebrating christmas 11 years ago and only started again last year because Ben was so upset about not being able to go home and me being scrooge wasn’t helping.
I don’t like valentines day either. We usually do something, like a nice dinner, or go to the cinema. But we don’t ever exchange gifts and/or make a big deal of the day.
I’m kind of indifferent to everything else. Easter, halloween, it’s all a bit pointless.
I guess if I had to pick a favourite it would be New years. Though the older I get the more I realise that it’s just another day.
Man, I sound delightful! ha.

ryn – May well be, but it wasn’t far off earlier!

I once read that a lot of collections start by accident, and then people never let you stop collecting because they keep buying you things for the collection. Your sheep thing sounds a little like that.

Josh and I have never been big on the holidays, either – we’ll usually do something together instead of buying each other presents. Even anniversaries are pretty low-key; we don’t feel the need to buy each other expensive presents at specified points of the year just because it seems the societal norm. I do enjoy giving everyone presents at Christmas, though! 🙂

New Years is my favorite as well. No pressure, no gifts, no expectations. Also, I think of it is a celebration of the end of the Christmas holiday (which I also do not enjoy).
