moving to sheffield!

Well, I have good news. Tom got into his law conversion course, and we’ll be moving to Sheffield in September! Very exciting!

So much to organise though. We have to find somewhere to live, I have to find a job, we have to work out how we’re going to get all our stuff up there, etc. etc. We have now both told our jobs that we’ll be leaving. I officially hand my notice in this Tuesday coming. I feel so pleased because I’ve had nothing but nice reactions. Everyone’s reaction to the fact that I’m leaving has basically been ‘oh shit!’. Nicki and Richard both asked me if there was anything they could do to make me stay and Nicki said she doesn’t know what they’ll do without me. Everyone has said such nice things that I actually feel quite sad about leaving. Turns out I am appreciated after all – just a shame that it takes me leaving for me to find that out. Steve and Jane have both asked me if I’m leaving because of Emma lol. No I’m not, but on the other hand I’m not too upset that I’ll be gone before she gets back off maternity. She’s in for a week from Monday, which is going to be a nightmare!

I have managed to find some jobs to apply to. I’ve applied to 4 so far and intend to apply to a few more this weekend. I have no idea if I’ll get anywhere with the ones I’ve applied for, but so far I’ve been pretty selective with what I’ve looked for, which has been nice. I’ve basically thought ‘now, where would I like to work?’ So I’ve been looking for jobs in universities, libraries, museums, theatres, etc. Some of the ones I’ve applied to are quite a big jump in terms of pay so not sure if I’m setting my sights too high. We shall see.

Having no luck whatsoever with finding anywhere to live. We went up yesterday to see some places, which was nice but really not very productive. We started off with viewings for 5 places, which had gone down to 4 by yesterday morning. On our drive up another one was cancelled and another got cancelled when we were there, so we ended up only seeing 2 places. And neither of them were any good lol. They were both really nice but both reaaaaally small. So we will be looking again and hopefully going up again sometime next week. It was so exhausting though. It’s a 2 and a half hour drive up there, then we spent all day walking everywhere (seriously, for miles, and Sheffield is about the hilliest place in the world), then drove back home. I slept for hours and hours last night and can hardly move my legs this morning. But it was nice to see a bit of Sheffield, which is lovely, but with some really dodgy areas (so now we know where to avoid). Also got to meet up with Kyle and Chris, which was nice (and very helpful as Chris helped us find where the hell our viewings were).

So yes, lots to do, but very excited. And so proud of Tom. I’m so glad he got in 🙂
