Racism Is Way Better Than Astrology
So it turns out this pending operation is having quite a lot of influence on my life in so many ways.
First – I am working from home for most of the next two weeks, because it is just after half term in the UK, and most of the staff at The Hive have young kids who will have been off school.
Why does this matter? Because most of the staff usually come back after half term with colds/coughs/etc and that is something I can REALLY do without catching in the next twenty one days.
So I am pretty much hiding out in my house, to ensure that I don’t catch anything untoward.
Second – it might not work, because I have had a "nasal problem" for the past two weeks (ish). My nose is occasionally blocked up, but not all the time. I have not been coughing, I have not had any fevers/shivers/etc. I have sneezed a few times, but I think that is more related to the amount of snot in my nose than anything else.
However – even though it is most likely allergies (which I didn’t realise I had) or possibly to do with the dust/cleaning products used in the last week (my beloved and I have been house cleaning in preparation for my triumphant return after the surgery) or possibly hay-fever (which I have never suffered from before), the nice nurse at the clinic suggested I make an appointment at the local clinic just to get it checked out. Because apparently when you are having major heart surgery you should avoid having chest infections (who knew?).
Third – I am really unable to make any kinds of plans until I know what it is up with me. Which, hopefully, I should find out on Thursday.
Which is really kind of annoying, because I have potential hotels to book and train tickets to buy and – should it require putting off or postponing – entire work arrangements to re-arrange.
Meanwhile, I find myself being worried if my nose is blocked, worried if it isn’t, worried if I sneeze, worried if I clear my throat…….
None of which is helping with the general stress and worry about pending heart surgery.
But – on the upside – I have a list of files returned in an XML format so that it can be passed from a web-service to a tablet. So, you know, life isn’t all bad.
how is the UK better than America?
