The last twenty seven days in summary
Because I have been spending most of the last twenty seven days writing stories, I really haven’t had either the time or the inclination to write that many diary entries.
So – here’s what the last twenty seven days of my life consisted of (excluding the parts where I was writing for NaNo of course – you can pretty much take those as read!)
The first nine days were spent working away from the office, as part of a fifteen day countrywide tour – going around various shops and so on, partly to demonstrate the software we were going to supply, and to get further ideas about what we can do to make it better.
By the time I was done with the fifteen days (in total – it included a few days at the end of October) the product was infinitely better, and a lot more customers were interested in it – running a pilot, doing a demo and so forth. There were no actual sales, but that was pretty much to be expected.
And apparently, during that time, people started to wonder if I was coming back to The Hive. So – it’s nice to know I was missed.
But also, during that time, some members of the supply department started bitching about the time and money that was being spent on this new security project (the one I am working on, and the one that I was doing the tour for). Apparently they felt it was all money that was being wasted, because it was never going to go anywhere. And that we shouldn’t get to waste their money on something that they don’t approve of.
Obviously I disagree. I mean – I don’t think the country should be run like that, so clearly I am not going to support someone who thinks the company should.
So there was a meeting, and a bit of a debate, and nothing really changed. Most of the people who aren’t in the supply department support the idea of developing new projects and getting new customers – even if we initially lose money for the early parts of the setup (because that is usually the way it goes), and those who disagree are all within the supply department, and are a very specific part of it.
The last two weeks I have been splitting my time between continuing the shop visits and doing upgrades. Which is how I’m going to spend the rest of this week and the start of next. There is a large exhibition coming up in around a week, and we are getting ready for that.
Progress on getting the house ready for sale has kind of stalled – travelling around the country for three weeks really takes it out of you.
And possibly the saddest news of the last few weeks is that my girlfriend won’t be coming down for Christmas – she can’t get the time off, and so she is coming down for New Year’s instead. Don’t get me wrong – getting to see her – to spend a whole week with her – is brilliant and wonderful, but this is the first Christmas we won’t be together for a long while 🙁
Right now, it just feels odd not to be writing!
