Cutting out that little spot

I have a surgery date for the skin cancer spot on my back.  November 26.  It is always nice to have a full Thanksgiving dinner tummy and be thankful that cancer will be plucked out 🙂

The doctor is great.  Young…when did the doctors get so young?  That is an old person thing to say, isn’t it?  He has a sense of humor.  I have not met many surgeons who have a sense of humor.  He talked to Doug and me like we were intelligent adults.  He didn’t pull any punches, but gave it to us straight.

He said: You are going to have friends who have had some cancer removed here and there and think this is the same.  It is not the same.  Basil Cell and Squamous Cell Carcinomas are 98% gone once they are cut away and rarely do these cancers kill.  This is Melanoma.  It is an aggressive non-rational scary cancer.  This comes back and we cut it out and it shows up somewhere else and we cut it out and it shows up somewhere else and it will kill you.  It has no pattern and doesn’t know how to leave a trail, but just jumps over to another place at will.  Radiation or chemo doesn’t really do much for it, so cutting it away is the only sure bet to get it.

He showed me how the incision will be–maybe 4-6 inches in length with the actual spot removal with a wide circle around the spot to get all the edges.  It will be deep down to the muscle to make sure it is all gone down under.  The incision is so he can stitch it up.  Otherwise it is just a hole in my back.  It is day surgery.

I know this deep in my gut: he will get it all and not have to test my lymph glands for spreading.  And then we will be finished forever and ever.

peace~~

Prayers continue. Will say a few extra on the 26th. I think the medical schools are teaching patient communications better in recent years. It use to be all a patient got was a “Ho-hum, I’ll check on that for you.” Then nothing, unless the patient made at least a handful of phone calls. I am looking forward to reading you for a very long time. Be well, my friend.

YES! Every night before you fall asleep “see” your beautiful self wrap in a golden healing light. And as they begin to do the surgery envision that golden healing light penetrating into your being until you see yourself radiant. Let us hold that place for you and your spirit! Namaste.

It is NOT an old person thing to say, as I’ve noticed that some of today’s doctors look like they should have a note from their parents excusing them from school – and I’m only 50! Here’s too complete removal – and no recurrence! :friend of Greywolf Borealis:

I truly think a positive attitude is half the battle. Fill that belly with lots of good food and then do what you have to do to be done with this thing. Meanwhile, you have lots of friends here that have your back. xoxo,
