Piet Mondriaan
When each of my nieces and nephews graduate from high school, I made them a wallhanging for their dorm or room. For example, when my eldest nephew won a football scholarship to Western Illinois University, I made him a football-themed hanging. My eldest niece wanted something pretty in her dorm and I made her a pretty pink and purple hanging.
Doug’s niece recently graduated from high school and I am continuing the tradition. She is going away to the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and will be studying graphic art and interactive design. I thougth about what might appeal to her–she had a hard decision between a school of music and Temple. And then I remembered artist Piet Mondriaan (<–check him out!). His work is perfect for a graphic design artist!
So I found one portion of one of his works and designed the quilt to match. I backed it with fabric that has words and different fonts–also perfect for graphic design. What do you think?
peace~~
I think you did a good job. Be well.

I have always loved Mondrian’s works, although I seldom like non-representational art. I feel that I could live with most of his pieces. Perhaps it’s because they are uncluttered and often feature straight lines. I suspect that the young lady will be the envy of her dorm-mates for such an unusual quilt.
