Crow Man
Doug rides the bus to work most mornings. He slips out of bed at 5:45 and makes coffee, reads the paper, and showers for work. And at about 6:50, he heads out the door. Now his alarm doesn’t wake me up when it goes off at 5:45. His showering and dressing doesn’t wake me up at 6:30 or so. And when he leaves for work, I do not wake up. No. None of these noises wake me up. But as he walks down the street…the celebrating clamor always wakes me up.
It’s the crows. They love Doug and follow him all the way down the street to the bus stop, three blocks away.
It starts with one crow, who is usually sitting on the power line. He starts his squawking. Soon he is joined by two more, three more…five more all squawking like he was the prime suspect in an egg snatching. And as he waits for the bus, one or two hang out and give him a little encouraging squawk on occasion. Every morning.
Other people will walk down that same road without the crows calling, the crow-parade greeting and sending them off to work. Just Doug.
Crow Man.

That is so cool! I wonder why the crows follow him like that. Perhaps he feeds them? Crows are so intelligent, and for me fun to watch and hear. Amazing how they follow him.

It’s been said that crows and ravens can waken the dead. Be well.

I hate to be the one to say it, but they aren’t greeting him, they are warning him to stay away and other crows that he’s coming. LOL! Of all the birds, crows and ravens have the most awful sounds. Smart critters, though. 😉

I saw a documentary on crows and their amazing facial recognition powers. He looks like someone they know…

I agree with Jeanne more than Linda although I did laugh at Linda’s note. I think the crows think he’s one of the flock — maybe a long lost brother or even dad. If I were Doug, I would feel honored!
