like a cold, cold rain [CoA 8]

(So… um… I’m well into week 9 at the writing of this. Sometimes life wraps you up in a flurry of surprise events and the routines get away from you a bit.)
The weekend (February 25-27) was mostly a very, very grey (and chilly) one. There were spots of sunshine a couple of days, but they were soon engulfed in the grey once again. (It eventually got around to culminating in a thunderstorm. But it was a slow roll to that point.) It was also a very mellow weekend. Nothing very eventful, really. But it’s been one of my favorites in awhile.
It started with jamming to Journey’s Greatest Hits while out with my mom. There was the viewing of True Grit (the one with John Wayne), which brought back memories of my childhood where my dad would have a John Wayne movie marathon. Plus, it was a pretty great flick. When I took a trip to the local grocery store to return some Redbox discs and mail a package (I’ve yet to be in an actual post office since moving to Wichita – the local grocery chain takes care of mailing needs. They are all over town. Whereas I’m aware of the location of only one post office.). At the Redbox an older gentleman had come up to see what the recent releases had been and asked me, "Are you returning anything good there?" I told him what I’d had and he told me about how he’d been trying to track down Waiting for Superman because he’d heard it was really good, "I heard it should’ve been nominated for Best Documentary, but it wasn’t." He was kindly and adorable and made me smile wide. Inside the store, the girls at the customer service desk, where I had to go to mail my package, were giggling and having an awesome time. There was a brief discussion of International House Hunters and Bizarre Foods and a whole lot of laughing.
And, mostly, that was what my weekend got filled with. These brief, sweet, lighthearted moments. Moments that shone in the face of the grey, grey skies. And so it became one of my favorite weekends.
[what the "CoA" bit is about]
JOURNEY!!! Awesome.

Those weekends are my favorites, too; the ones with no expectations where life just takes hold, scatters splendor around you & leaves you utterly thankful in its wake.

I just got “waiting for superman” from netflix. Excited to watch it. Did not know there was Redbox in the US. So, are you really Grace Personified? My life seems more like Clutz Personified.. 😉

I’m trying to think of my favourite weekend, and I struggle. It’s rare for a weekend to be differentiated from a weekday, in my life – I either work both or neither, depending on which stage of my apparent study / fail cycle I’m in : ) RYN: thanks, I’m strangely nervous about this stuff. Especially considering all the junk I’ve pumped out on here over the years.

I’ve been trying to make myself watch some docs. And I usually am geared up for them. But for some reason, these past few months, I’ve just been avoiding heavy **** in film, and rather drifting towards the lighter fair.
