great in the eyes of someone [CoA 6]

song: lifesize – artist: a fine frenzy

It’s becoming a routine now. Obsessively checking the weather forecast, looking for those days when I can shed as many winter layers as possible. Getting giddy when I have a day full of errands to keep me out and about in the sunshine, sometimes even managing to drive with the windows down for awhile. Occasionally realizing that what passes for "warm" at the moment isn’t entirely warm.

And so early in the week, checking for Friday (when some errands were going down), the predicted forecast had started out definitively in the 40s, dropped back to the high 30s, and then bounced around between the two a bit, sometimes dipping a little lower than before. When it rolled around, I was banking on the fact that warmer days tend to surpass their forecasted high.

Having encountered issues with my hosiery of choice, and my continued shunning of tights when possible, this is the year I embraced the knee sock. Or over-the-knee sock. Or thigh high sock. All depending on what is cute and available. My legs are long, so it knocks the over-the-knee and thigh high varieties back down a length for me. But they do their jobs splendidly and I’m becoming increasingly smitten with them.

Friday, even though that morning the high was still predicted to be 38, I decided I couldn’t bring myself to wear pants. It is getting too close to spring now, and after the massive Snow Storm 2011: Part Two; Does Kansas really have a snow plow?, well, it meant the not-quite-a-heat-wave dictated that it was time for a skirt. And socks that covered the entirety of the lower half of my legs in a black, grey and purple argyle. Paired with cute mary janes. Even if some of the parking lots were full of dirty, slushy snow stuff.

I was counting on the warming trend exceeding the forecasted high and that most of the parking lots I’d have to traipse through would be fairly clear of the slush. Thankfully, these things worked out as expected.

One of the early stops was Sam’s Club. There was a most adorable and cheerful nun out in the parking lot. Which, let’s face it, is pretty awesome. Once inside, headed down a back aisle, aimed for the produce, a husband and wife were passing with the young daughter (she was probably around 3 or 4) and their younger son (he was probably 18 months to 2 years). As the little girl passed, she shouted out, "Hello!" and then she turned around in the cart, after they’d passed and yelled back, "I like your socks!"

You guys, there are few things in life as awesome as having your fashion choices complimented by a wee one.

Later on in the store, there was another little girl who was carrying on some sort of conversation with her dad, while staring at my socks. Which is adorable, y’all.

Before the day was through, I got a few more compliments from grown up women. And I do so appreciate them. But, really, it is hard to top the enthusiastic validation of a girl who was probably only barely taller than my socks.

socks!

I just realised that *I’m* wearing knee-high socks, at this moment. Kilt socks, specifically. Part of me worries that this is odd. Most of me, however, doesn’t care about that and just enjoys how comfortable they are. They are not, however, as awesome-looking as yours. In that, I agree with the little girls.

So cute – I love the socks and the shoes especially. No socks ever come up over my knee – so sad. Even thigh high stockings don’t hit where they’re supposed to. 🙁 And I LOVE nuns! That sounds weird to say but I just think the whole idea is just so noble…ever since I was small I felt weirdly connected to them, I don’t know why.

I love your watch/cuff? too…
