Summer of Inactivity
So last night Nelson took Asher to the tractor pull at the county fair to the south and I had a lovely evening to myself….at least the start of one.
Since he took the car I decided to walk to the CVS, about a mile away, to get my heart med refill. I can’t tell you how good it felt to walk. I’ve been enjoying the cooler temps and last night was no exception. When I got home I decided I was going to keep this up! And the decision was actually exciting to me.
That was the end of my wonderful evening.
Around 9:00 I decided to take the dogs out to do their business. We take them out to do that in our side yard. I hook their leads to their collars while I’m still inside the house and after I reach out and push the garage door opener so that I’m ready to just walk out in the yard with them. Have done it this way since we’ve had them (3yrs).
We won’t be doing that anymore.
I had no more opened the door but they spotted a squirrel and the next thing I knew I was on my stomach being drug across the drive and into the yard.
I am bruised and scuffed from head to big toe on my left foot. I’m going to lose the nail on that toe, but thankfully I don’t believe the toe is broken. I was beyond sore this morning when I struggled to get up. I slept in the chair to keep the toe elevated.
Initially I was ready to get rid of the dogs. We adopted them grown and full of bad habits. We’ve loved on them and they run away in a blink if we let our vigilance lapse. But I’m just not a quitter.
So they now wear their no pull harnesses 100%. I don’t open the garage door until I come off the step so that I’m grounded before heading out. And their leads are locked so that can’t run away from me. It’s worked so far today. It’s this old dog that needs to learn the new routine.
We’ll see how that goes.
(For those on twitter and/or instagram, I posted an instagram pic of my
toe. @TinaMHunt or tinamhunt)
Oh dear! I’m glad you weren’t more seriously injured, but it still sounds pretty bad.

How big are your dogs??!! Can’t imagine any I’ve ever had being strong enough to drag me. Hope you heal quickly. I’ve never twittered and don’t know what instagram is… so, no toe pic for me.
