I’ve been studying restorative justice. It is when a victim can forgive an offender and I’m finding the issue of forgiveness and apology a hugely complex. Both tear at so many emotional strings, changing core belief systems, yet if they are accepted the stress relief is physically and mentally measurable, blood pressure, heart rate even long term emotional issues like depression, borderline personality disorder, pstd, eating problems and so on…

I’ve been thinking about this for myself and the only person is my sister. She’s two years older and was a monster to me growing up, as abusive as any sister could be. But she has since, in the last 15 years, been very remorseful and in her prideful way has tried to show me that she loves me. I on the other hand have stuck in my fear of her…it’s time for me to go through the steps of learning to forgive. It’s frightening to think about, making it all the more necessary I guess.

Who do you need to forgive or apologize to?
