totally lost in thought

So I’ve started my second semester back in school and I apologize for being absent from here.

I’m steeped in finding some direction for a psychological study of mass media. There seems to be pros and cons about it’s influence having to do with aggression. That I can work on and there is plenty of resources for me to tap but beyond that I can’t decide….media influencing women and body image, obesity and sedentary lifestyle with hours in front of the computer/tv….? And of course there’s more and just can’t decide…..

I’ll try to catch up on reading diaries…but the first week back in is the hardest.

It’s not an easy subject. However, a large part of learning is in the watching and listening. Some are more susceptible to propaganda. Good going on the school thing. It’s never too late to learn. Be well, my friend.

What a relevant topic in this week of the terrible shooting! Good luck with your topic.

Good luck with this. It’s nice to have you writing again so I hope you can still find time to be here.

A fascinating topic! If you have time, let us know what you are discovering? RYN: I like that combining you’ve done: it seems to me too that our actions can usually be classified as motivated by love or fear. My definition of fear has to do with protecting what one already has – a sort of inturning, I guess – while I see love as moving out from oneself towards others (and other things? I seecreativity as part of it.). It seems to me that you can’t be motivated by both fear and love at the same time. (Though I think they can alternate rapidly.) The desires on Hugh Mackay’s list don’t have sharp boundaries like that, so I see each as combinations of desires. I’m not sure how the Arizona shooter could have been motivated by love. I see it instead as maybe a reaction to fear that the society he saw in his head was being destroyed/not able to be created. Who knows what was in his head?

Oh, I’d like study of that, too. Good topic for my UCF elders life-learning courses–I can get some good topics here to put before our university faculty, I’d bet.
