Computer advice!

So, I’m only a little technologically inclined, so OD world… Help!  So I had this idea pop into my head today that I should buy myself a nice, new laptop. Specs and all that I’m good on. I’m more so asking if I *should* do it. I have a Dell XPS one desktop that’s almost 4 years old, but runs pretty well. I bought it thinking I wouldn’t really want a laptop in grad school, and well, I’ve regretted that decision ever since coming to school. So I bought a netbook shortly after  I started here, so that’s roughly 3 years old.

Shortly after starting school I came to realize that I do not function well sitting at a desk. I like to sit on my bed with all my papers spread out around me. For whatever reason, I cannot get this to translate into sitting at a desk. I’ve "made due" by writing and doing most of my work on my netbook, but it’s so small! And relatively slow in comparison to my lovely desktop. So now I’m wondering if an updated, large screened laptop would suit me better? Or should I just wait for one of these computers to die out? Should I spend the money?

Any advice is welcome.

Apparently, my mind has gone into overdrive today since it’s the first [mostly] fever free day I’ve had in weeks.

i can’t really work at a desk either and a laptop with a not-tiny screen is definitely pretty awesome to have if you spend lots of time writing and have to go through zillions of papers a day that you don’t always want to print out. i say you should do it. graduate school is terrible enough without having to choose between sitting at a desk or squinting.
