Back in the studio
Words cannot express how excited I am to be a father in approximately 7 weeks! In fact, there’s only one way I know how to express my feelings: musically. So I’m back in the studio again with my best friend working on a lullaby for my soon-to-be-here son
For those who don’t know, and those who have forgotten and will now be updated, I make songs for people as gifts. Not everytime for everyone, select people on select (preferably milestone) occasions. And obviously this would fall under the category of ‘milestone occasion’
I belive it was back in 2008 when my bud and I started funneling our musical creativity towards a lullaby for my first nephew. At the request of my brother and his wife, we turned the ‘Mockingbird’ lullaby into a rap song welcoming my nephew into the world. Not like Eminem’s "Mockingbird", ours wasn’t dark but a much happier vibe filled with inside joke references. Everyone who has heard it teared up. My sis-in-law was balling, haha
Since then we’ve done multiple songs for various members of my family, including my beautiful wife. No other lullabies though, although one for my niece was kind of half-lullaby, half-normal song
My nephew never cried when hearing my lullaby. He’s now 5, and to this day he still thinks I’m the greatest artist in the world! Haha, my poor brother and his wife have had to endure many car rides where my nephew only wanted to hear my songs. And he’d sing along with them too. So this is how I hope my music can reach my son. I would love it if hearing my voice sing to him would always calm him down and make him smile
My wife and I, through shopping at various stores, have heard multiple lullabies lately. Especially through the mobiles that circle over the baby while it’s in the crib. The ‘Rock-a-bye Baby’ lullaby really caught our ears. So I told Jeff, he spent all of Saturday and a lot of Sunday on the music, and sent it to me last night. And now I’ve pretty much been up all night and this morning working on lyrics
Our goal (or at least my goal specifically) is to make this song the best sounding song we’ve done!
moral of the story: Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent
Have a Nice Day!
