How the mighty have fallen…
I love my Houston sports teams, except the Astros, haha. I’m not a big fan of baseball, and even if I was that is a poorly run organization! But I do love my Rockets and Texans! (and yes, in that order of priority)
I spent the last two nights watching their games on tv. Sunday night was the Texans, and last night was the Rockets. Both late night games. It got me thinking how I am not as young as I used to be, haha. I’m yawning and looking at the time on my phone thinking, "Why do they schedule these games so late? It’s way past my bedtime for work in the morning"
Also between those two games I watched, I had only one beer. I used to down beers like water. Now one beer could make me tipsy, on an outgoing night nowadays I’ll have two beers, haha
A couple weeks back I helped my buddy, Brandon, move into his new apartment. Afterwards we went to a local Mexican restaurant. I had my fav drink of choice, beer ritas. For those who don’t know, it’s a margarita with a beer bottle flipped upside down and into the rita. As you drink more rita, the glass gets room so you lift up the beer bottle and refill it! It’s a genius invention…. 😛
Anyways, I had two of those with him. And I was drunk, just that easy, haha. And I had a hangover the next day. Brandon is my longtime friend and a longtime drinking buddy. Only he could drink me under the table before. We’ve built 3D beeramids, and raced each other seeing who could finish a 100 oz beer tower first. Oh the good times (often chronicled in past entries), he’s kept this up. I’ve obviously not. I used to need two of those beer ritas just to get tipsy!
And I was watching the Rockets game in my man cave. I was looking around at it and I see my long time dream of a man cave has come into fruition. It’s the perfect man cave for sports watching parties and drinking and stupid fun! Except I don’t do that anymore, haha. This would have been perfect in my college days and the first few years right after
It’s been over a year since I’ve been to a college tailgate, used to go to those all the time. I wouldn’t even go to the games half the time, just to the tailgates for drinking, goofing off with buds, and talking to girls! Haha, obviously not on my priority list anymore
My old college buds have continued the tailgate, and they keep asking when I’ll come back. I don’t see it happening any time soon. Maybe next year when my son is here, my wife and I will make an appearance back there and introduce all of them to him
Not to toot my own horn, but I was quite the popular guy back in those days. It’s how I got the hot sorority wife, hehe. And how did I get that? By getting drunk and acting stupid. I hate Reality TV, I hate the Kardashians and I hate Jersey Shore. But really those are meant for adolescents and college students. And why? Because that’s what’s fun for those age groups. So it’s no coincidence that my getting drunk, being loud, doing crazy things yet being friendly, resulted in popularity
But I’ve grown out of that. I’m in a different stage in life. I knew it was coming, the last year or two I was at these tailgates, my buds would always ask why I’m not going to the game too. I’d tell them, "I’ve been to every game while in college, if I continue to do the exact same thing on weekends I used to in college, I don’t really feel I’ve taken a step forward in life". It’s more of a lateral step, to be out of college but live like a college student
I also used to be able to write entries that are more organized, more purposeful and nicely sized. Not long ranting like an old man… 😛
moral of the story: Beer ritas, always my drink of choice after a hard day at work. Now to put one of those 100 oz beer towers into a margarita bucket… that, my friends, would be my fountain of youth!
Have a Nice Day!
