A favor for a favor

I had a fun time over the weekend with my buddy, Brandon. He helped me move some furniture from his parents house to my house. We were going to buy them for our kid’s room Brandon bought them for us as our baby shower gift. He’s a good guy, we’ve known each other since Cub Scouts

Anyways, we joked about all the funny mishaps we’ve had in moving things because we’ve helped me each other a lot over the years. We’ve both been vagabonds, going from apartment to apartment, house to house, house to dorm and back to house, etc. So we’re pros at this! Even though we do mess up and break things, but it’s funny anyways so it’s cool

We’ve helped everybody we’ve known move, and build funiture and even paint houses/rooms. We were always doing those things for others beause we’re just plain good-hearted, we were bachelors so we had the free time, and the promise of free beers for our services. Okay we were alcoholics. Well he still is, one beer could get me tipsy nowadays!

And we also did it because we’re not shy in calling in our favors. If we helped you, we will ask you do the same in return. So we also joked this weekend about how we’re not doing a damn thing for my brother’s upcoming move!

My brother and his wife are moving into a new house once it’s finished building. His wife is already trying to hint that she needs help, telling me weeks ago, "We have so much stuff to move, it’s insane! I’m thinking of hiring movers". And I simply replied, "Yes, you should hire movers"

Brandon and I helped them move into their first house. I also helped them build furniture. And later we helped them paint their nursery. And in return for us so far… they’ve done nothing

Didn’t help Brandon move, didn’t help me move (either to my condo or my house), didn’t help me build furniture, and didn’t help me paint my nursery. And they were asked to help in all these things. Everyone else we’ve helped has helped us, these guys are pretty selfish

I’ll save how much they mooch off my parents for another entry 😛

moral of the story: You must learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t possibly live long enough to make them all yourself
