Haven’t you seen a keypad lock?
In my department, my office is closest to the front door. And that front door has a keypad lock so only us and a select few (being the execs) know the code to it. Plus some other people who others here have randomly told even though they weren’t supposed to. Anyways, so since my office is the closest I have to answer the door for those who knock
Yes it’s an easy task but can be irritating at times. And since my job (accountant) is boring, I find things to amuse me. I’ve found amusement in how people approach that door. Yes it’s true, I’m weird. And this entry is about my overanalysis of people knocking on a door. Yes this entry may waste your time, but at least it’s not the typical whining and bitching about OD being down 😛
There’s the quiet knock. The person is either shy or just unsure if they’re at the right door. There’s the loud, angry knock. The person is either angry or too damn confident. Maybe angry they don’t have the keypad code to get in
There’s the three knocks immediately followed by attempting to open the locked door. This confuses me, why would you do that? Do you approach people’s houses/apartments like that? *knock, knock* I’m coming in now whether you like it or not!
There’s the attempt to open the locked door, then about 10 seconds later start knocking. Was I supposed to open the door after your failed attempt to open it? That’s not a welcoming sound to hear someone attempt to barge in. I’m not thinking, "Oh someone wants in the door, but not knocking as in to ask if they’re welcome. I shall let them in now".
Sometimes we have to work on the weekend, that pretty much means we’re one of a few people in the building. Sometimes you’ll randomly hear someone trying to open the door. There’s no reason for anybody to come to our department during a weekend. Given our door says ‘Payroll’ on it, we don’t open the door as a precaution for any unexpected weekend visitors
I just don’t get anybody trying to open a door with a keypad lock. What do you think it’s there for? Your instinct should be to knock, not to test to see if it’s unlocked. And occasionally the hospital employee will ask, "Hey what’s the code to the door?". Why would I give that out? It defeats the purpose of a departmental keypad lock if everyone has access to it.
moral of the story: Nine out of ten Americans believe that out of ten people, one person will always disagree with the other nine. And if that isn’t the truth, it would be a lie!
Have a Nice Day!
