It is what it is….

"It is what it is", I hate that phrase. Of all the cliche lines thrown around left and right, that’s the most annoying to me. I’m a huge sports fan, so I read about sports a lot and watch a lot of player interviews. And it seems it’s written in athletes’ contracts to throw that line in there no matter what they’re talking about. This just adds to the stereotype that athletes aren’t intelligent

Interviewer: "What happened in that last play?"
Athlete: "Well we were trying to win the game, and they stopped us. It is what it is"

Interviewer: "So what did you have for breakfast today?"
Athlete: "I had some scrambled eggs and bacon. I was still hungry so I had some pancakes too. It is what it is"

Interviewer: "What did you do on your day off?"
Athlete: "Well my dog died. I had to bury him in my backyard. My other dog kept digging up the dirt and I had to keep re-burying him. It is what it is. I thought about hitting the dog with my shovel for doing that but then I’d have to bury him too. It is what it is"

Anyways, my beloved city of Houston and its fair weather sports fans are making headlines now. For y’all who don’t know, the Houston Texans have been embarassed a lot recently with Matt Schaub’s record-setting poor play. Four straight games with a pick-six! (That’s an interception thrown that is returned for a touchdown, just to clarify)

I joke with my friends that with Schaub’s shameful record, and David Carr’s shameful record for sacks taken, the Texans should never issue the #8 jersey again

But still, there were the crazy fans (too extreme, anyone on the extreme end of a spectrum in any way is crazy. Extremists are crazy!) who actually showed up to Schaub’s house and talked crap to him. And someone else took photos of his family to post on Facebook

Way to keep it classy, Houston! I mean I wish the guy was benched too, but never go to the guy’s house. That’s just too far. I hope they announce the names and pictures of these guys so they can be heckled and harrassed. A cliche line as advise for athletes is to "leave it on the field". It seems we’ll have to remind Houston sports fans to do the same

moral of the story: It’s not about who wins and loses. It’s all about the couch you sit on, with beers, chips and dip, and people to talk stats with!

Have a Nice Day!
