Self-accountability

One thing I don’t like about today’s society is that no one will accept personal blame for anything. It’s always somebody’s else’s fault…

Fast food made me fat (stop eating it and exercise), I can’t live off of McDonald’s minimum wage pay so let’s raise minimum wage (it’s not a career, it’s meant for high schoolers to have a part-time job), Miley Cyrus taught my daughter about twerking (haha), I want the superintendent of the school district fired because there was a stabbing at a school (did he personally encourage this so he’s solely to blame?)

I bring this up because this morning I read an article where parents who have run over their kids while backing up are suing the government to make it standard for automobiles to have a back-up camera so they can see behind the vehicle

Really? It’s the government’s fault? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blindly support the government. There’s lots of things the government does wrong, but not requiring automobiles to have a luxury feature? I’m also sorry for the loss the parents endured, but there was no other way to have avoided this?

Is it impossible to look in the rear-view mirror and side mirrors while slowly backing out of a driveway? And to take a second to look around before you get in your car to see if your kid or any others are outside playing? Is it beyond reality to teach kids not to stand behind cars when they are reversing?

Was this kid’s fate destined for not having a back-up camera in that car? Should everyone without a back-up camera consider each incident-free exit of the driveway a blessing, that they cheated fate and pray that fate doesn’t catch up next time?

Even if you had this camera, would that eliminate any chance of this accident occurring? (It was an accident, and unfortunately accidents do happen no matter how much you avoid them) What if the camera malfunctions and you’ve adopted the habit of staring at the camera screen rather than using the mirrors? Or somewhere in the shifting of your eyes from each mirror to the screen, you miss something?

One of the plaintiffs in the case is a pediatrician who accidentally backed over his kid. Obviously he’s smart to have become a doctor. Plus he must get paid a lot for his profession. Could he have not afforded this luxury option himself? Or is he one of those doctors with an ego that they can do no wrong? I know those types, I work at a hospital, haha

I remember I used to watch M*A*S*H all the time as a kid with my parents. And I’d tell my dad, "I want to be a surgeon, too". And he, having a career working directly with surgeons, would tell me, "No, don’t be a doctor. Doctors are assholes"

moral of the story: When it comes to privacy and accountability, people always demand the former for themselves and the latter for everyone else
