snowed in [edit]

I’m fighting back writing another angry family-inspired rant.

For a while I’d convinced myself there was some hormonal influence over my mood and attitude towards them, but really it’s 90% them. Part of the problem is that I’ve grown used to living by myself. If I get frustrated with people at school, I can always escape to my apartment. But here I have to deal with people 24/7. Especially now that we’re snowed in. Aaaahhh!

I’ve been great about not over-sleeping this break. Getting up as early as 7 sometimes, going to bed relatively on time. It’s helping me be less of a bum – I even cracked open my Step 1 book (ughh) yesterday. But today, I’m just not feeling it. Slept in until 10:00, despite having gone to bed before midnight, and still currently feeling sleepy. Must resist the urge to spend all day in bed dozing.

I should pop outside to "experience" the snow, but honestly the boots I brought are not tall enough to keep me dry. We had some crazy winds that basically turned our side of the street into a giant snow bank. The roads are a disaster, and it seems our isolated neighborhood is not a priority for the city’s plow-trucks (although you’d think the ridiculous community fees we have to pay would cover a private plow or something). I’m just glad we have plenty of food in the house. Not so glad that both of my parents are staying home from work.

I’ve been spending a ridiculous amount of time on OD this break, and I’ve bookmarked a couple of new diaries. I enjoy reading about people’s lives. Not in a weird voyeuristic sense; I just feel there’s a lot to learn from the thoughts and experiences of others. There’re people whom I can really relate to, and there’re others who lead lives I can’t comprehend (but am trying to). Some are my age and others are older (haven’t found too many insightful teenagers yet :P). With the older crowd there’s a lot of mental noting of what to do and not-to-do in the future. Not doing a whole lot of real noting though. I’m shy about leaving notes for some reason. Mostly because I hardly ever have anything useful to say. I’ll try to be a better noter in the new year.

[edit]

Holy cow is there a lot of snow out there!! I’d say this is the biggest storm we’ve had since the infamous Blizzard of ’96. Back then I helped dig out the car with a large metal bowl. 14 years later I’ve upgraded to..a basket I dug up in the garage. We seriously need a few extra snow shovels. It was good to get outside. I wore the bottoms from my old bright blue ski-suit and my faux-leather boots (with heels no less). An odd outfit to say the least, but surprisingly it really did the trick in keeping me dry and warm. Towards the end we ran out of room for the cleared snow – you can only make your giant out-of-the-way snow piles so high. The wind also kept knocking snow from the piles back onto cleared areas, which was frustrating. But overall it was a nice way to spend a few hours outdoors. I even managed to snap a few photos while I was out there.
