The Captains Flight

He sailed his ship for adventure’s sake
His fiancé the sea
Its solitude entrapped his soul
And would not let it free

Until one day, he met the wind
She whispered in his ear
The storm clouds gathered overhead
The waves cresting with his fear

He grabbed hold of the rudder
And charted a course unknown
For he had spent his days adrift
His ship and he alone

In waters, dark and turbulent
A poetic heart to hide
He sought escape like footprints
Washed away with an evening’s tide

She enticed him with her plaintive cry
"Come sail away with me
Cast off your fears, Dear Captain
And embrace sweet ecstasy"

The Captain, weary from his flight
Heard only the maiden’s call
The two sailed into the horizon’s light
A happy ending afterall~~~
