be constructive

today has been a bit depressing. claire went to try and pick up her politics essay but ended up picking up mine and jack’s. the main comment on mine was ‘re-write this thing again in english.’ ouch. a bit harsh, i think. there are some passages which were a bit muddled after re-reading it but at least be constructive! didn’t help that one of his smart arsed comments was unreadable (being: ‘you can’t expect your sentences to work by putting in [illegible]). the only bit of chuffing praise he gave me was for my bibliography, and he spelt ‘good’ with three o’s. and he accuses me of being hard to understand. so. pfft. that was annoying. i got 60%, which is a 2:1 (just), so i’m not going to pretend that the world has come crashing down over my ears.

then i picked up my sociology essay. 60%, 2:1 (just) again. not a very good start to the term, eh? although claire got 55% in the same essay and she does sociology single-subject, so (hopefully) the marks were pretty low this term. i’d stopped giving a shit by this time but was pleasantly suprised by my 69% (1% off a first) in philosophy. yay.

this hasn’t been the most motivating of things to help me. i really don’t need smarmy comments when i’ve got a truckload of revision to do. i went mega-hyper yesterday, god knows why and ended up revising for twelve hours. but i’ve only read a page today. bah. lucy had her maths exam today and it went terribly (she just came into my room and said ‘i need a hug.’ it was awful), so i (obviously) had to spend some time comforting her and we both bitched about how york is vile and we’re going to move to the shitty york st. johns’ college next year. heh heh. damn right.

that aside, it’s been nice. although at first me and tony were actively mourning the death of our domesticity, the house is now busy and lovely. plus, the people who annoy me aren’t here yet, so the house has a fab atmosphere. around one this afternoon the sun was really beating down and claire and charlotte decided that they wanted to sunbathe, and charlotte went out in her underwear.. and that’s it. she walked past a load of people too, and they were having a right good gawp. i shouted after her ‘charlotte, you’re obscene’ to which she replied ‘i know..’ which got the group of gawpers giggling. her motto is ‘i doubt i’ll ever see them again, so who cares?’ fair enough. that girl needs a burger though, she isn’t very nice to look at in her underwear, she’s all bony and looks like skelator. i reckon size six clothes must be a bit baggy, there’s just nothing on her – she’s like one of the cheeky girls (but not as ugly). i want to give her a big cheesecake.

i text oliver to tell him i was feeling a bit homesick, and he rang me back, telling me her was in london. he’d been there a day and a half but was a fully-fledged mockney, going ‘yeeah, yeeah, oi’ve bin daahn heere a dai bat eeets wikeeed, yeeah.’ apparently he’s not going back to college to re-take his a-levels but he’s going to train to be a hairdresser – at the vidal sassoon college, no less. you can’t really stay maudlin when you’re talking to him!

i need to get on with some work.. grr. i just want to curl up in bed with chocolate and watch telly. agh.

Curl up in bed with some work!

Whoever marked your paper has a good sense of humour. I suppose they need one. RYN: I think those things at the fair my friends wouldn’t go one are new, and they did look pretty awesome. I would have definitely gone on, so next time I’ll give you a bell and you can come and back up your hard as nails go-on-any-ride claim. And then you can give ME a big piece of cheesecake.

Essay comments are evil. I hate that you spend weeks (okay, so in my case hours.. the night before the thing’s due in.. but that’s not the point) working hard at something, only to have some smelly lecturer tell you it’s shite. It’s wrong, is what it is. Mind you, 60%? That’s pretty damn impressive. xxxx

btw, re: a question you asked ages ago about my old uni, I didn’t go to one that you think I did. The one I went to isn’t in London but its still pretty good for politics and economics (except it doesn’t have it in the title of the institution!). It’s kind of in the Midlands…near where you are…much nearer than the one you thought I went to. Although Niall, my former boss went there and did
