even stevens
i’m starting to wish that people would hurry up and come back to york.. as much as i love tony, it being just us two is plain weird. we ended up having a ‘frank exchange of views’ (i.e. an argument) about whether the american education system or the british education system was better. he was arguing the former, me the latter. he thought that the american system meant you came out with a more well rounded education, therefore american system = better than the british, but i was arguing that it is so capitalist and elitist you have a small minority with going to amazing colleges with bags of funding, and the rest are languishing with an illiteracy rate that’s higher than cuba’s. he didn’t really think of it that way, so we left it at agreeing to disagree, and he rang his dad (he always does that) and i went upstairs to do some revision. turns out his dad (professor of linguistics, ba in english and politics) agreed with me and sent him upstairs to apologise! heh heh!
there’s a little black cat that’s become our friend starting from last night. it came in wowing and looked a bit thin and we didn’t have any food so i gave it some milk (in claire’s ashtray, heheheh. don’t worry, i cleaned it first). it drank it like a maniac, drank loads more and then decided it wanted to explore the house. it went upstairs and back again (a bit pointless) and then kept sniffing at jack’s room (well, it smells a bit) and squatting its legs like it wanted a poo, so i shooed it out sharpish. i don’t love animals that much.
ooh, i’ve been dead hormonal today. i don’t know why, it’s not blob time or anything (not when i take three packets of the pill at a time, it’s all fun and games for nine weeks on the trot). i’ve been really tired today anyway and then i got a package from my mum which was so lovely. she’d sent me some easter biscuits (bought from marks and spencer! i didn’t know we were that posh now), two carrot shaped bags with little chocolate eggs in (one for me, one for tony), some eye cream that i’d been harping on about, now magazine, and a tiny forever friends white easter bunny holding a little pink egg. ooh, i felt like crying. i just didn’t feel like doing any work after that, so i read my now magazine and watched the crap film that is antz and had tears in my eyes when one of the nice solider ants died. what a softie. doesn’t help that i despise regular ants with a passion.
anyway, after watching that film i (reluctantly) said to tony that i’d walk to campus with him and watch some big spanish football game in wentworth college. turns out we ended up in the goodricke jcr, but it has a massive telly and digital and it was deserted. we tried to put it on sky sports, but none of the digital channels were working, not even sky one! i can’t really say i was disappointed – watching spanish footy isn’t my idea of a good saturday night, regardless of how big the match is. we watched stars in their eyes – kids! for a bit and both got very disturbed by the kid pretending to be george formby. we played four games of pool and it was a really good laugh, except when tony irritated me a bit by handing out tips on how to play every time i took a shot (i said to him ‘you’re a real mr tips, aren’t you? i might have to start calling you ‘pg” – firstly he put his arms out like a chimp (like in the adverts), then had a real confused/bemused look on his face as if to say ‘is she taking the piss about me being black?’ but i didn’t mean it like that at all!), which just kept putting me off, and at the start letting me have two goes, or not taking his two shots if i’d potted the white. he may well have just patted my head and gone ‘there there, little girl.’ grrr. (but he stopped this pretty sharpish when i told him ‘look, i’ve got two older brothers, i’m used to losing everything.’ he’s got two younger sisters, so he’s used to letting them win!)
however, then i started getting good and he had a bit of a worried look on his face, and we ended the pool night even stevens at two-all.
tomorrow i said i’d cook a nice easter sunday lunch, as i felt we ought to celebrate the mass eating of chocolate by starting off with something savoury. nah, i’m doing it because i know tony’s family are quite religious, so it’s only fair that we mark it in a way. although i do want more people to come back to york, i hope they can wait until after lunch because i can’t be arsed to cook for more than two. i even bought some aunt bessie’s yorkshire puddings (although they’ll never be as good as my mum’s. when she told me the ‘secret yorkshire recipe’ of the sacred puds it was with the curtains drawn and in a hushed and hurried whisper – a bit like the father-son talk about the raisins in roald dahl’s danny the champion of the world). although he has to make the mash, because i buckle under the pressure of cooking for more than one and it turns into stodgy lumps.
ooh, i feel dead knackered now. i’m not all that keen on going to bed though – the night before last i woke up at about 1:30 a.m after a hearing a gentle rustling sounds very close to me. as i was just waking up i felt very disorientated and gradually looked up to see, in my horror, a large dark shadow of something looming over my face. at first i thought – ‘tony?’ and wasn’t too scared but then i thought ‘what the hell would he be doing in my room at this time’?! so it woke me up with a real jolt and found.. the blu-tack on my morrissey ‘bona drag’ poster had come unstuck and it was that that was gently rustling, and quietly looming over my head.
RYN: I suppose that’s one good thing about being Asian and having an all-over tan(!). If I did blush, nobody would notice.

I don’t think you need Claire and Jack to come back to make your diary entertaining. This entry was pretty entertaining. Couple of points: a) York has ethnic minority students (a couple of people I know who have been to York says it’s very white – not that I care – just different from uni which was quite multicultural!) b) Yeah, you’re right about the superiority of the British education

system. Yeah, they may get a rounded education system but I suspect if we went to an american college for a year we would find it easier than if an American came to one of our unis. In my final year, (I did a couple of second year courses – split finals and what have you) I befriended two exchange students from UCLA and they were really struggling with our course despite going to a top

RYN on Leonhart’s diary: Yeah, it would be funny if Sarah was writing an online diary as well. I don’t know if you have read the paperback trash novel ‘Come Together’ I bet the two diaries would read like that!

RYN: &rse…I was just tucking into a nice pasta dish at Ask when you put that offer to me and now it’s expired! Bugger me (I’d rather not) for having a life and going out! Anyway, 200th note is nothing special (ask old-timers like Leonhart and Fakey etc.), I’ll be soon be reaching my 5000th note, I’m sure I will be able to reward you amply if your my 5000th! 😉

You’re quite funny, you know. For a girl. And you’re not even thick either. Mrs Levinson complained that people treat Marks and Spencers like supermarkets these days, so your mum shopping there doesn’t make you posh I’m afraid! Never mind, eh. You can always have a debate about it with Tony.

I hate it when boys let me win at pool. But I also hate it when they completely thrash me. So, basically, there’s just no pleasing me. Hope you’re having a great Monday 🙂 xxxxx
