Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

Hell is an amusing idea.  Tormenting the soul for all eternity for the wrongs committed during a brief life.  Humans are, by nature, shallow creatures, and their lives mean nothing.  Eternal torment for the mistakes made in such a miniscule amount of time?  Ridiculous.

Religion is based on fear of death.  Humans want to feel better about their eventual end, so they tell themselves that there is an afterlife, and if you’re a good little boy or girl, when you die, you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  And if not, well, you get what you deserve.

The idea of an afterlife speaks volumes about the egotism of the human race.  HUMANS have souls, HUMANS go to Heaven.  These humans are unwilling to recognize that, despite their capacity for speech and their “emotions” they are simply animals.  Unimportant life forms residing on a rock floating around in the vast space that is the universe.  There is no God, and if there was, he wouldn’t care about you.  Humans seem to think that they were created in the image of God, that they are God’s “sons”.  The sheer ego of it infuriates me.

The Christian God has self-esteem issues.  “You will worship no other Gods before me.”  I mean, come ON.  If I was the Creator of the Universe, I wouldn’t give a shit if people worshipped me or not–I’d know how awesome I was.  But he needs to be revered and worshipped because he’s insecure.  Maybe creating the universe was a way of compensating for something else.

God pisses me off.
