the house of the rising sun

today

the golden autumn light was beautiful and I thought of you

just as it was a month ago

only I was looking at it as I woke up next to you

great growling snores

and orange leaves blowing by your window

dry warm fall air

today

I woke up in my own bed

and the light is even more orange,

the leaves smell musty

the air bites with cold

fall represents the end

the end of sunshine, warm nights

no more tomatoes and sunflowers

leaves on trees carefully piled on the ground

anything we had has faded

slowly, carefully as the earth has moved

just as the trees have lost their leaves

I have lost you
