I still think of him. Its ok. I probably will continue to for some time. But there are infinitely more important things than him that I think of.
Among the many things I love about husband, is his predominantly glass-half-full perspective. I was whining about being sore from a 10K that I did yesterday. I said that this aging thing really blows. His response was “how would you be feeling if you had done the 20 years ago”, to which I responded that 20 years ago I wouldn’t have even considered doing a 10K. His reply “Exactly!” He’s right. I’m happy that I am closing in on 49 and I am in better shape than I was at 29. Aches, pains and all.
I took a spur of the moment trip to see my family on 11/1. I had not seen them in some time and I was feeling anxious again. Husband was the one who encouraged me to go. I didn’t tell them until just before I left town. I told mom and dad only. I wanted to surprise my sister. It was especially good that I went that particular weekend. My sister’s “cancer-versary”, year 2 was on 11/2. As soon as I told her I was in town she asked me if I was going to dive in the ocean with her on Sunday. Of course I was!! Saturday was a gorgeous day! We walked around town. Shopped. Lunched. Coffeeed. Sat night was with the family at a local place. Drinks and dinner. Back to mom and dad’s house after. My niece is doing some genealogy and found some family connections dating back to the 1600’s. Really fun, fascinating stuff! Sunday morning Sister and I took our dip in the Atlantic. It was rough and chilly. We got tumbled but came out exhilarated. It is a kind of “in your face” to cancer. A testament to my sister’s strength and spirit. She amazes me at every turn. Her onc ordered a new biopsy that he is sending for genomic testing. The goal is to find some more targeted drugs.
Husband and I got away to MX for a few days in October. I can hardly believe it happened. It was a great experience for us. 6 days without the kids. On the beach. Wow. It was really good for us.
thanks for the smile (and the note). it’s been very quiet around here lately. nice to see a post from you…and brimming with some good stuff. glad you are well.
