Happy Thanksgiving to my American OD friends!

Lol, I remember I always used to get a million happy thanksgiving messages from my american OD friends, I guess they aren’t aware that the Canadian one happens in October 😉

Anywhoo…hmmm what do I have to tell about this weekend…well

I went horseback riding today and learned lots about dressage. It was awesome! I LOVE the horse I’m riding, her name is Maggie and she’s super responsive, listens to everything I tell her. The girl that works there and helps feed the horses and such saw me trotting on her and I just learned how to post last week (cuz I’ve never ridden english before) and she told me that I looked really good! :D:D:D

Man, I love that horse. She’s all bitchy at first and pins her ears at everyone she sees, but I really think that’s just a fear thing. I think she just doesn’t trust anyone. I felt like such a moron, I totally thought she was a bay from the last time I saw her, and when I saw her this time she was a chestnut…:| that’s really embarassing. How do you fuck that up?! Oh well, I guess I was concentrating more on WHAT I was doing, and not so much the horse I was riding!

I think one of the things that I like most about riding is that I am coordinated up there – it all just seems to come together. I was such an awkward kid, so I always felt self-conscious doing things like dancing, etc. My escape from the world has always been with animals, so I’m not afraid to look stupid up on a horse, because animals are my safe place. I think that’s why it comes together so well for me. I hope I keep doing a good job. I want to be good at something! I really want to stick with this!

I’m not sure Rob wants to keep doing it though, he complained that it was too cold in there, and I can see why he would be frustrated…when he rides, he just walks and trots. His horse takes a lot of effort to get trotting…in my opinion, he’s not the greatest lesson horse. But I can see why she would assign him with a lazy horse, because the opposite could get a little dangerous with an inexperienced rider! Trotting and cantering all over the place when they’re not supposed to isn’t the greatest thing.

And I’m so glad that my teacher is getting my balance down really good, and I’m learning things that I can apply to western riding as well. She said she would teach me how to sit a trot properly, and even post with no stirrups! I don’t even know how you would go about doing that!

I feel bad sometimes for making the horse trot off and on for an hour and a half, but then – it’s probably good for her, I think that was the only excersize she got all day. I hope we get to do more of it…I love it so much!
