I had SOOOOO much fun!

Wow, what a fun weekend! I slept on the car ride there on Friday. We were pretty tired. We didn’t really do anything that night. We watched a movie until 3am or something (Saving Silverman) then went to bed. I only had one beer.

The next morning, I slept until 12 and then Gill woke me up to have breakfast so we could go skidoing. Her mom made us bacon, eggs and toast, it was so good. Then I put on a tank top, a t-shirt, a long-sleeved shirt then my polar fleece pyjamas. On my feet I had a pair of knee-high socks (which were UBER thin), ankle socks on top of that, wool socks on top of that, then Gill’s skidoing socks on top of that too. I had long johns, track pants, then polar fleece pyjamas. Then I put on the skido snowpants on top of all that, my coat, hat, and two pairs of mittens. After I had the helmet on top of my hat, I don’t think it would have mattered if it was -60 out there! It was only -11 though. (for any americans reading this, that’s all in celcius I’m talking about).

Gill’s dad had 2 skidos, but he only let us take one of them out. It was the big Grand Touring one, 1998. To be honest, I don’t know a lot about skidos at all, but I’m going to write the little details in here so those of you that do can read it. She told me it was a 500, I dont know what that means at all. Anywhoo…we got the thing out of the driveway, down the road, and straight into the most powdery snowbank I have ever seen. It took us 20 minutes to get the thing out. By the end, we were stripping off layers like mad. at that point, we had just mittens to help us dig the thing out, no helmet or hat, and no coat. We were sweating buckets.
We tried to go down the trail again, but this time we did it from a different angle. We ended up getting stuck again! So we had to walk all the way back to Gill’s house to get her dad to help us. We couldn’t find him so we went down to the lake and Gill walked up the trail to where the skido was stuck. Which, by the way is about a kilometre long. We knew that’s where her dad went because we could see his footprints, they were the only ones. So she told me to stay on the lake while she went to catch up with her dad.
Well, it was only -11 degrees celcius outside, so I plunked myself down on the ice on my back. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, and the sun felt so good on my face. So I lay there for about 10 minutes, just enjoying everything about being there. I had never been on a frozen lake before, and I’ll admit, I thought it was a little scary. Finally I thought that maybe Gill and her dad needed some help, so I started to walk up the driveway to help. I was in a really narrow spot where if a skidoo came, I would not be able to jump to the side. I was almost at the top, and I heard a skidoo coming, FAST. I looked up and I could see Gill coming. I ran to get to the top of the steep, 10 foot high hill. I jumped to the side, and I knew that Gill didn’t see me at all. But man, you should have seen her! She didn’t have her helmet on. Gill had realized that the extra weight of me on the skido with her was what was making it hard to get through the powder. Once she got the thing unstuck, she knew she had to gun it to get out of there, otherwise she risked getting stuck again.
When I saw Gill come by, her normally reddish-blonde hair was completely grey with the powdery snow and ice. She had tears coming from her almost purplish face, which was completely contorted with concentration in what looked like an evil sneer. She hit that ten foot jump at 130 kph!!! I laughed as I went down to meet her.
We got on the skido and went around Gill’s bay for a bit. The lake is pretty big, and it’s one of those ones that you can go around on forever and get lost in all the twists and turns. After we were in Gill’s bay for a bit, she said I could try driving the skido. I made myself a little track to go on. The more times I went around, the easier it got. Eventually Gill asked me to drop her off where her dad and her had drilled some holes in the ice; she wanted to go fishing. I kept going around and around my little track. My goal was to hit 60kph without feeling out of control or unconfortable. Once I did that after about half an hour or maybe even an hour…I’m not sure. I went over to Gill, parked the skido, and we decided to go on a long adventure together. We left her bay and went really far. We skidooed for 10 minutes and we found a trail where tonnes of skidos had been. Gill had explained to me that when there is slush, you have to go really fast so as not to get stuck. Well, there was slush all over the lake on the trail. We were going SOOOOO fast! I was holding onto the pole-like thingies on the back. I was holding on so tight, and I was bouncing around like CRAZY! I actually thought I was going to fall off. I guess maybe I was a little scared…no, not even scared, maybe a little nervous…but for some reason, the thought of falling off and being bounced around so much made me laugh my freaking ass off! I was snorting up a storm back there. We found a little island and sat up there for a bit. Then we were going to see some people that were skidoing that we didn’t know, we wnated to make some friends. We didn’t end up doing that though, lol.

Then we decided to turn around and go even further. We were just motoring along, and it looked like a pretty good place that we were headed to. Well, we came around this bend where the shore hid what was around the next corner. Once we came around that corner, our options were very limited. There was the deepest slush we had seen since being on the lake right in front of us…or, we could go up onto the shore. It was a quick decision, but we went up onto the shore. Once we were up there, I think Gill hesitated because right ahead of us, where the only way we could come off the land was more slush – just as bad as the stuff we ran into initially. Right when we hesitated was when we got stuck. So gill shut off the skido and we got off and evaluated our options. We strategized, and worked through the best possible thing we could do to get us out of there. We checked out the slush, which we were both too scared to walk on because there was so much of it. We were scared we would crack the ice beneath and fall through.
Well, half an hour later, we had dragged the five hundred pound ski do to face 180 degrees in the opposite direction, and we were exHAUsted! We both got on the ski do, hoping for the best, Gill started it off really slow, then we booked it right out of there!
We got all the way back and we were going to tell Gill’s dad that we were back, safe and alive, but I guess we completely forgot. We were zipping around on the lake for another half an hour or so when Gill decided to take the ski do back up to the house along that kilometre lon

g driveway, lol. I walked up and met up with Gill at the front of her house. A few minutes later, Gill’s dad and two guys were there with him. The two guys had brought their 2 skidos and were planning to come out to find us. They figured we had gotten stuck. well, they were right, we had been stuck for an incredibly long time. But it’s a good thing that they hadn’t tried to look for us, we had gone out pretty far and they probably wouldn’t have been able to find us. It’s just as well that we had gotten out on our own.

I was pretty excited because I had just gotten used to driving the skido on my own. Gill’s dad wasn’t willing to bring out the other skido before because he would have had to move the four-wheeler, and then lift the skido about 20 feet to get it out. Well, he was worried that we were stuck, so he was willing to take the risk, and he had those two guys to help him. So when we got back, we had two skidos! I took the big clunky one that we had been riding. Gill decided to take the little one. It was a 1987, and it was also a 500…again, I don’t know what that means. However, I do know that her two friends were driving 350s that were about the same age as Gill’s 1987. Gill’s was in much better shape than there’s were. Murray was her friend and he was pretty hot, I thought. His skido didn’t have a seat, so it looked like a really odd scooter, lol.
Gill told me that she hangs out with him a lot in the summer. She said that he asked her out once. She also mentioned afterwards that she has been trying to hook him up with a girl for a really long time.
The other guy was pretty hot too. His name was Brian. I think he was 21 or something.

So when we got down to the lake for the second time, I asked Gill if it was ok for me to go on the rest of the lake with them. She told me that it was fine, but when I saw any slush at all, to just gun it. That way I would be going too fast to get stuck, just like how she had been going on the rest of the lake when we were on the trails.
Man, we had SO much fun! I was pretty excited to just be going on the whole lake on my own like that. We kept going until it was pretty dark, then we went back to the house and they left to go back to theirs. We were going to both just chill out and relax. We were going to have showers later, go to the bar for a drink or two, then head over to Murray’s house to hang out. Although it was about 6:30 when we got in, we weren’t ready until 11!
Gill said that Murray has a lot of younger siblings and she would rather not upset his mum by going over there so late, so when Murray called, she told him that we wouldn’t make it. The drive into town was about a half an hour, but the roads were so bad that it took us like, 45 minutes. We both went to our banks. Then when we drove by the bar, I said, "Why don’t we just forget the whole bar idea and go back so we can sleep?" Gill agreed. The one bar was pretty empty and the other had a lot of old men, so it was probably a good idea. Gill put $30 worth of gas in the tank and we went back, and fell asleep like, instantly lol.

The next day Gill woke up UBER early, I think it was about 7:30. Murray was there by 8, and I wasn’t up and ready to go until I think…10? lol. Gill said she didn’t care though, so it was all good.
Murray had a different friend with him this time, his name was Richard. I think he was only 17. Well, we had a good time on Sunday as well, I made it all the way up to 100k!! I was so proud of myself! That was only on the open lake though. I was still pretty proud of myself.
Later we were zipping along down the road pretty fast. I was trying to keep up with Gill and Richard. I was behind with Murray. They just kept going faster and faster…then I did something really stupid; I hit this corner at 80! I slid all over the road and almost crashed into this snowbank. I could have flipped that thing and killed myself! I was ok though. I was scared for a second, then when I stopped I turned, looked at Gill and Richard, then looked at Murray, all surprised, then I started laughing. Murray laughed too. Man, that was bad though.
Gill had run out of gas, that’s why she saw what I did. She had been zipping along really fast, and her engine just puttered right out. She said she started laughing because Richard kept going and didn’t realize that he had left her behind. He had just come back to help her when I came around that corner. So everyone saw…lol. *shakes head at self*
So Gill and I went back to get her some gas on the big skido. Gill drove. She said that I could drive on the way back. She almost didn’t let me. She said that I really freaked her out on that corner and she didn’t trust me. I realized it had been a mistake, I had gotten used to driving out on the lake, and I guess it hadn’t sunk in that I was now on a road and I had to be careful. Gill said it made a big difference that I don’t have a driver’s license either. I managed to convince her to let me drive back, I promised to go slow and be careful. She yelled at me when I didn’t look both ways on that dirt road. I think it’s kind of funny because we had been on that road for hours, and had only seen one car! She did have a good point though, even though I did think she was just being paranoid. So at the stop sign, I made a point of looking both ways, but she didn’t see it, so she yelled at me again. I was laughing, I really had looked both ways, lol. Oh well.

So we got Gill’s tank all filled up, then we came back to Gill’s house to drop off the gas thingie, then it was back to the lake! What an adventure that was!
It was weird, we had gone over the middle of the lake dozens of times, but Murray really wanted to try and do some doughnuts out there. So we all went with him, but he got stuck. It was really slushy! So then we tried to help him, and Richard brought his skido closer and got his skido stuck! I was smart and kept the big clunker right the f4ck away, it we got that beast stuck, we were done for. So I had a long way to walk through that thigh-high snow to help them. I think we had just gotten one of them unstuck, and then Gill and Murray jumped on the same skido, and got the damn thing stuck again. lol.
At one point, Gill decided to take her skido back. She got hers stuck too! It was ridiculous! lol, but hers was only stuck in deep snow, she wasn’t trapped forever in the slushy mess. We only had her free a few seconds after we were helping her. So she got her skido a distance away, then came back to help the guys. We were out there for awhile, all slushed in, and Gill looked at me and told me to get my skido out. I agreed. I just walked all the way over t

here, and I was good. I wasn’t stuck at all! So I got on, did what Murray told me to do. I started off slow, then booked it right the f4ck out of there. I was flying! I got back to our little meeting spot and took a nap on the lovely seat of that monster. I felt bad that I had left them in the middle of the lake like that, but it was much better that I was out of the way with the beast then to get me stuck as well. Gill was really happy with that.
I  looked over a little later, and there were four people all struggling to get the skidos out. I found out later that her dad walked through that impossibly deep snow to help them out. There was really nothing I could do. They started to come back a few minutes after her dad helped them out. I guess he has been stuck a few times himself, lol.

We all split up soon after that, Gill and I had to get going so we could go back to rez. We left at around 2 and didn’t get back until 5. It’s a long drive man! We were talking about trees the whole way back. It was pretty funny. We probably annoyed the sh!t out of her dad, lol. I thanked both her parents for letting me stay there. I think I will have ot give them a card or something.

When we got back, we must have been overtired or something, but we had this uncontrollable laughing fit. I don’t even know what triggered it. If you read over the 6th paragraph down…wow, Gill and I laughed pretty hard at that one. Then we remembered the nickname my friends Laz and Butternuts gave her when they were down. I just looked at her, pointed and said, "omg! Freeze!" and we laughed really hard for like, a good 5, 10 minutes. Finally, we came up for air, and Gill said, "are we laughing for the same reason?" I told her why I was laughing, and she agreed that was the same reason she had been laughing, then we started laughing all over again.
Well, the whole time we were there, we ate cookies. We ate two huge tupperware containers full of cookies. They were all oatmeal chocolate chip. We proly had a dozen and a half each over the time we were there. Not to mention all the other food we ate. It was all right though, we worked it off with all that lifting we did with the skidos.
So when we got back and we saw that our roomate, Krista had made a whole bunch of cookies, I yelled over to Gill if she wanted a cookie. We died laughing for ages, it was great.

So, I know it’s long, and if you have read this far, I am extremely impressed. That was my lovely weekend.
