AM/AM Radio Part 3
AM/Am Radio (Part 3)
(Radio)
“That’s right Hayden your first movie appearance, let everyone know about it.”
“I was picked up for the film Forgotten Kingdom as the White Princess”
—
The young man jumped from his chair and stepped over to the radio to hear more. He had heard this name before from his grandmother. She used to call his mom “her White Princess”. He always thought this was odd since they were not white, but figured it had another meaning to her.
(Radio)
“So Hayden who was this girl that helped you survive your childhood, which I can tell you still love…”
“Her name is Eva Jones………………………………………”
—
Not hearing the next few moments of the interview, due to yet another loud crash coming from the stair case. The young man looks over to see his grandmother standing halfway down the staircase. A tear running down her cheek and a broken coffee cup and saucer at her feet. She had snuck in while he was outside with the dog and grabbed some coffee that he had made earlier. Not to disturb his work she was going to proceed back to her room, when she heard a familiar voice coming from the radio. She stopped mid-way up the stairs and sat down to listen. She had chosen to be quite and let her grandson rest.
He ran over to her and grabbed her by the arm to assist her down and get closer to the radio, so she may hear it better. Her body frail and with this new revelation shaky. He walks her over and gently sets her down in his chair.
(Radio)
“…………….”
Only static could be heard coming from the radio. The young man tries feverishly to get the signal back for his grandmother. Then as an act from god the last words heard from the radio was “I have never stopped loving her.” The radio shorts out and blows the fuse to the lights on the Christmas tree. Both are in shock for a moment before he tries to fix the fuse. Moments later due to the commotion the rest of the house starts to wake up.
The young man’s wife takes over control of the household and lets him take a moment with his grandmother. He takes her to his home office and they sit down at the computer. His grandmother had not forgotten Hayden’s first name, but had not remembered her last all these years. It was not common to where she grew up and she had always regretted not knowing it. The last time they spoke to each other was a quick phone call, when Hayden got cast as the “White Princess”, but sadly Hayden had not told Eva the name of the movie. Eva thought to herself back then how beautiful it was to be called the “White Princess” and that stuck with her the rest of her life. Eva never knowing the name of the movie never got to see it, for if she had…she would have seen Hayden and been able to get her last name. Perhaps they could have stayed in touch.
The grandson, worked feverishly to dig up information on the radio show they had just listened to. After about twenty minutes, he found it. It had been recorded six years earlier and was now out for syndication. Not popular with many it mostly ran when stations figured no one was listening. Included in the info they found, was a link to one of Hayden’s great-nephews. When they clicked on it the message read “Eva, even if you never find this know that you are in my heart and with me for eternity.” A photo of her grave site showed with the date being that of 4 years earlier…in the online photo it can been seen an old locking picture frame, with a photo of two little girls on a play ground with arms wrapped around each other placed at the base of the tomb stone.
Just then the great grand-kids come into the computer room “Grandma! Don’t you want to open your presents?” they both say at the same time with new found Christmas joy in their voice. Holding back tears “That’s OK kids, grandma has gotten one of the greatest presents already.”
~~~FIN, thank you for reading my short story. Let me know what you think about it. Navaji (MeepleMe)
I am really fascinated by your stories!
@thediarymaster Thank you… For some reason I dreamed this story. I woke up one day years ago and thI n spent the whole day writing it. I’m assuming you read all 3 parts? I broke it up into small chunks because I originally posted it as FB posts. OD was not back yet 😊. I’ll have some other stories in mid late March…for the next couple weeks I’ll be busy with personal stuff. My entries will be more of RL matters until then.
