filled with gratitude

I"ve been having a good couple of weeks, and I have to write about them… let’s start with a quick recap of the week of makeup school in San Francisco.

I arrived with my coworker on Monday afternoon and we had a little time to have dinner and a glass of wine before we went to bed that night… the next morning arrived with an orientation. During this orientation a member of the Pro Beauty Team who knows both me and my coworker (he used to work in our store) said to her "don’t be nervous, you’re going to just fine!" and then looked at me and said "but you- I don’t think you have the level of artistry that we need to make it here." Uh, really? He was saying that he doesn’t think I’m a good enough makeup artist, so I decided to pick the most outrageous model available. She was stunning, with a gorgeous face and HOT PINK hair down to her waist. Two days later during our certification I did a really colorful eye look with about 6 different colors (purples, pinks, yellow and brown). My artistry judges were blown away, and the guy who said that to me came up and said "wow- I’m blown away… I’ve only seen you do natural no makeup looks- I had no idea you could do that! great job!!"

I said "Thanks! I get requests for natural a lot, since I’m the best in my store for that, but I can do beat a mug, house down." That’s makeup artist speak for "I can really do great makeup". It was awesome, I felt like a rockstar.

Rich is leaving this Sunday to drive to Annapolis to begin his job, and that’s exciting. I put together a gift for him with his favorite toiletries- Mammoth Minty scrub soap by Bliss, Art of Shaving sandalwood shaving cream, Jack Black eye cream, Derma Doctor moisturizer, Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male cologne, and a pair of Burberry sunglasses. I don’t normally express my emotions with gifts, but he needed all of this stuff.

When I leave I will still be attached to my yoga community. My teaching manual will be published in September for use by our students only, hopefully the book will be ready by January for publication for public use.

The studio has asked to record my classes digitally, so they can use them for their online library. This will keep me connected to the community, and the students who miss me can download my classes. The big thing is that I will also get paid for every download… crazy huh?? They’ve also asked me to find a location to teach teacher training in DC, and continue to work for them there! I’m not leaving at all… I’m just working remotely! so!! awesome!!

also… one of the owners of the center said "oh, my friend owns Circle Yoga in Dc. If you want to teach there, I’ll just call her. That way you don’t have to worry and just start teaching when you get there." I said "really? you can do that?" and he said "trust me, you’re an amazing teacher, they will be happy to have you!"

I love these people, they’ve always taken such great care of me. This is why I’m full of gratitude today. Thanks, to whoever is listening.

Wow!!

so yeah, I think that’s it… crazy stuff, huH?

This is so exciting! I remember when I decided to follow my heart and be with my love to Boston and I was so nervous not knowing what was next. Life is full of risks and adventures and you are going to love DC. Dave’s brother lives in Germantown and has for a few years now…loves it. I know you will miss Austin as much as I do but it will always be there for you to visit. <3

When you do a training in DC, please PLEASE let me know… I will be there. 🙂

that was a rather pointed comment from make-up man. nice that you made him eat his words. my feathers were ruffled for you on reading that paragraph!

i love seeing your updates. haha and i love that makeup artist slang! reminds me, i need to find a makeup artist locally that would be willing to teach me how to makeover my own face. hoping to do my own wedding makeup. eek! you are just so hardcore with your Yoga teaching. i love it. i love to see all of this good Karma coming at you, it makes me smile.

RYN: Cool thanks for the suggestions. I think I might be be leaning towards “BJ Hunnycups”. All the cool drag burlesque performers still like names with M*A*S*H references, right? Just wondering, do you have any drag pics kicking around?

RYN Seriously?? WTF? Why bother crossdressing if you are dirty? I don’t understand that at all. Don’t feel bad about refusing to do his eye makeup…I sure as hell wouldn’t. I don’t think any sane person would do them, especially using their own brushes.

RYN: Also, thank you for saying I look pretty when I dress up. 🙂

RYN: hahahaha… I’m reading that book right now. Recommended reading for the Kids’ yoga program I’m going to take in the fall. 🙂 Its changing the way I see myself more than the way I teach.
