Last weekend was the graduation ceremony for the yoga teacher training students I was mentoring. The entire mentorship/training experience is 200 hours over an 8 month period, and we really got to know each other very well…. we’re a nice little family now, and I was so happy to see them there, and proud of them too. After the ceremony, they gave a mezuzah case (see pic below). It’s a gorgeous Jay Strongwater piece, hand painted, enameled, and jeweled. Honestly, a little extravagant… and I’m not even Jewish, that’s the funny thing. The case is intended to hold a piece of the Torah and be affixed to a doorway (usually front door) to protect the household. It’s beautiful. I think I’m going to honor the intention and find myself a Hebrew scholar to prepare my little scroll and then put this up.

makes me wish i was j-wish!

We’ve all been talking all week, about what comes next for them… so I’ve set up auditions for them at my school so that they can get their feet wet. We’ve also discussed continuing ed classes, and set up which trainings they’re going to do next. I’m impressed- it was a very cohesive group, and they’re going off in such different directions. One is doing some additional Ashtanga training, another is pursuing gentle yoga and yoga for seniors, and another going to do a Kundalini training next fall… so impressive.

I still have shopping to do, and it’s Xmas eve. Yikes. Kinda sucks, because I’m totally broke right now. I literally have 16 cents in the bank. The good news is that I have two checks landing in the bank on Friday. Whew…

I had never seen mezuzahs until I moved to NYC, there are a ton on the apartments in my building. I’ve been doing my yoga practice listening to yoga journal podcasts. At least they helped me get back into yoga, I had missed it so much. Merry Christmas!

Wow, very cool about the case. I love different traditions and religions. 🙂

I tried to mail my stuff on Xmas eve, and the post offices closed early! Hope your day before stuff went better. 🙂

RYN: Yes, consistancy is always the key. I have left studios because the owner didn’t get that. I very consistant with showing up for classes… just need to get ppl in the door! I market with a website and flyers, but not sure what else to do but be my usual cheerful self! LOL
