Fufu, you little liar
Sunday, book club day, snow starts falling from the sky. SNOW. It’s been the mildest winter in Portland since I’ve moved back and then all of the sudden big huge clumps of snow start dropping out of the sky. Where’s our early spring? We went up to the Craft Warehouse before book club and I found lots of nice spring-related stuff for my altar. I was in the mood for spring. My desire for spring was fueled by those evil white flakes filling the air. I bought beautiful fake flowers, lovely pink and green pastel vases, candles, painted eggs, the whole works.
Book club was just the core four as Crystal from work was in CA for the weekend hiding from the snow and Melissa, despite being from upstate New York, decided the snow was more than she could handle driving in. Meli made Puerto Rican meatballs and fried plantains for book club to go along with our book, Down These Mean Streets. We had an interesting discussion about race and intersectionality and sexuality and feminism. It was quite a book club meeting.
Reed and I then went back to Portland as we were going to see the Philadelphia Story at the Cinemark, but we got there about two hours early so we stopped by the nearby Jo-ann Fabrics and discovered a spring President’s Day sale, where I got more candles, and fake flowers, and all kinds of things for my altar. I spent way too much money on craft stuff for my altar, but Ostara is my favorite time of year (tied with Samhain) and my altar is beautiful.
Coming out of the movie at 9pm that evening the snow had turned into a mini-blizzard and getting home was a little terrifying. That night it froze, so it was icy and crusty all over the next morning, but the roads were ok and everything was starting to melt already so I had no choice but to go to work for the most annoying President’s Day nonsense ever. Nobody had to work, nobody had school, so everyone and their kids were at the store. I was glad I got to follow this up with two more days off.
Except it’s snowing again today. I had to cancel my Dr’s appt. Reed came home early from work and is working from home. It just keeps snowing and snowing and I’m starting to feel claustrophobic. I might venture out to the store in a little while just so I can get out of the house. I wish the snow would go away, I’m ready for Spring…
Wow, so much snow! Here it will be 70 degrees today. It feels nice after a week where everything was solid ice. I had to wear spikes on my shoes just to walk to the libary.
