Let’s see . . .
Number 1 – Five Quirky Things:
I hate when people use bad grammar, either when speaking or especially writing. It bothers me to no end, and there are times I want to take a red pen to someone’s texts/Facebook posts, and correct them when they’re speaking.
When watching Fellowship of the Ring, or a couple other choice movies, there are lines I just HAVE to quote. Fellowship’s is Arwen’s, "If you want him, come and claim him!"
I hate being told I have to ‘take something as it is’ in reference to a book to movie or play to movie kind of thing. They have their opinion of it. They can like it, dislike it, whatever. And I’m allowed to have my opinion that whatever it is sucks because of the things taken out/changed. I admit, maybe I’m overly harsh sometimes because I’m a perfectionist, but if they’re gonna make movies out of books, they should do it right.
So many of my favorite movies or TV shows are from before I was born.
I love collecting Hedgehog things.
Five things I’m Afraid Of:
Heights.
Spiders.
Having to take daily medications for whatever ailment when I’m older.
The future of this country.
Not being able to be physically active.
Five Indulgences I Partake in Regularly:
. . . You know, I have no idea. Seriously, I can’t really think of anything. Maybe I’ll come back to this.
Number Two – Name the last movie, song, book, piece of artwork or performance that moved you to tears or joy. Explain why.
This one is easy. I was bawling after watching a movie named Gideon that I found on TV a couple weeks ago. I turned to it because it starred Christopher Lambert, aka Connor MacLeod from Highlander. Anyway, Christopher Lambert plays Gideon, a simple minded man whose aunt has remarried, and because the man she married doesn’t get along with Gideon, they decide to put Gideon in a home. Well, the closest one to them (because the aunt doesn’t want him very far away,) is an old folk’s home. Gideon ends up making friends with these lonely, bitter senior citizens, and helps them come alive again. To realize there’s still so much living they can do while they’re still here. There’s an especially touching sequence when Gideon presents a little booklet to a woman with Alzheimer’s. In the booklet, he’d asked another resident to write down when the woman’s favorite TV program was on, where her room was, and little facts like that.
What makes this movie a tear jerker and what had me crying at the end is that Gideon dies. It turns out that he’d been diagnosed with leukemia. Whether treatments wouldn’t work, or he never got treated wasn’t specified, but towards the end, Addison, who had pretty much become Gideon’s best friend, went to go see Gideon. He had a book with him and began reading Don Quiote to Gideon. He got about a paragraph in when Gideon said it was a big book. Maybe he should have brought a shorter one. And that’s when he slips away.
I’d figured out earlier in the movie that Gideon was probably going to die at the end, but it was just how they did it that really got me. Honestly, I reccommend this movie to anyone who just likes a good, well-rounded film. It was an excellent movie, and one probably extremely overlooked.
