Th1rteen R3asons Why

I read Thirteen Reasons Why after seeing it at Barnes and Noble. This book is incredible. It sucked you in from the first page and holds you there until the last page.

There are very few books that actually take you on the journey with the author where you feel what he feels and even though you know the ending, you begin to wish and hope that as the story goes on, something will change, that it won’t end in tragedy. This book is one of those. The more you get to know Hannah and her mindsets and the events that shaped her decision, the more she becomes someone you want to save. And the more the main character listens to the tapes, the more you feel his pain, his regret of things he didn’t do, how haunted he is that all of this happened to someone right under his nose but he never knew it.

And you wonder… what will the effect be on the others who receieve the tapes? What was the effects on the ones who already heard them? What changed in their life knowing that they contributed to this girl’s death? Sequels are rarely as good as the originals, but it would be interesting if Jay Asher explored each person’s reactions and how they changed because of the tapes.

I highly recommend this book to anyone, because to sum it up in one sentence, this entire book is about the ripple effect and how the things we do can reach far beyond us, even if we don’t mean for them to.

Thanks for the note. There Will Be Blood is about greedy people in the time of oil prospecting. In a couple of weeks, my local theater is having a day where they’re showing all 5 Best Picture nominees for $30. I’m considering going, but 5 movies in one day is a LOT.

This book sounds pretty interesting. I went through a coming-of-age type novel phase about a year ago, so maybe I should get back into it and pick this up. Right now I’m reading The Know-It-All, which is about this (real-life) guy’s quest to read the whole encyclopedia. It’s really funny. Anyway, judging from the books you’ve reviewed, I think you’d really like Juno. Go see it!

RYN: It would be pronounced a-lee-na. This whole naming thing is so frustrating! It seems like there’s always some sort of connotation with names a lot of the time- like Ivy (which, thanks for the suggestion, by the way! every idea DOES help)…there was a stinky girl in my 2nd grade class named Ivy and it’s all I can think of. LOL sorry! I really am grateful for all suggestions though. kristen

RYN: I have not been with David for over a year, we don’t even talk unless it is about the internet. However, once you love someone, really love someone and invest as much time in someone as I did David, you don’t just fall out of love, you just realize more that they are/are not the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. The person you can live with, forgive, and love unconditionally. Our love started to have conditions, and we tried changing each other. I love David now, always will, but we will never be with each other again, ever, as far as I know. What happened to all your entries? Did you take me off your favorites? 🙁
