Typing With Green Fingers

A year ago yesterday, Scratchy died.  ::Sighs::  I miss my kitties . . .

Okay, anyway.  Last night was the final karaoke contest, where the ten finalists gathered and faced off.  I hung out with Shannon for an hour or so, we got Chinese and I showed her this one really cool thing off Telegraph Hill Rd.  Someone has thisstatue of a horse in their front yard!  How cool is that?  I love the houses I happen to discover because of working at Domino’s.

Anyway, we split off at a bit before six, because she had to be someplace.  I drove off in search of food coloring.  I found out when I made Mike’s birthday cake this past March that food coloring works a lot better than just green face make up.  And it doesn’t come off on your clothes!  Well, I went to Pathmark and Shop Rite and neither had the liquid food coloring.  It was just the gel.  But I did find a Hedgehog Beanie Baby that I didn’t have.  So I got it.  It’s so cute!!

I came home and told Mom I needed her green food coloring and that if I used the rest of it, I’d replace it later on.  She gave me the bottle, and thus started my adventure in turning myself green.  I did my hands, my arms nearly up to the elbows, my face, ears, neck, and a bit down onto my chest and shoulders.  Then I wore a sliver/blackish tank top, blue jeans, black platforms, and this black long-sleeved meshy shirt over the tank top.  Oh, and my witch’s hat.  All in all, the ensemble looked pretty cool.

Anyway, I figured it was best to get there around seven, cuz that’s when these things seemed to always start.  I was wrong.  They were giving plenty of time for everyone to get there, contestants, judges, etc.  It was actually gonna start around nine.  So I decided to sing a few warm up songs.  I did Foolish Games, which was probably a mistake, since I don’t really know how the verses go.  (As I realized when I was up there.)  I sang Looking Through Your Eyes, from Quest For Camelot.  The Shoop Shoop song, from Mermaids.  And I Dreamed a Dream and On My Own.  Then I figured I’d done enough and wanted to save my voice for when I got up there and did the Wizard and I.  But then I got thrown for a loop.  I was either coming down from doing a song, or coming back in the place when I saw the guy who organized the contest.  He had a bucket for us to put our song choices in.  (They were randomizing the whole thing by picking our names out of said bucket.)  Anyway, he tells me and a couple of other people there that everyone was picking two songs and we’d be judged on both of them.  I panicked at first, cuz it’s like, ‘Wait!!  TWO songs???  I only prepared one!!!!!’  But it was okay.  I pretty much immediately decided on singing No Good Deed.  I mean, I was already green.  I might as well sing another Elphaba song, you know?  And I knew I could do that one well.  Even though before last night, I hadn’t sung it in I don’t know how long.

Well, unfortunately, I didn’t win.  And I don’t agree with their choices for who did win.  But oh, well.  It’s okay.  I mean, I got up there, I got to sng my heart out with two songs that I positively love singing, I won fifty bucks for becoming a finalist, and I got a free T-shirt.  All in all, I’m no richer monetarily, but just a bit richer in mentality I think.

Lol.  I think I’d rather be richer in mentality and monetary ways, though.

Mike and I now have a challenge as well.  Apparently, there’s a duet competition in January.  It’s gonna be me and Mike verses SHannon and Qui.  Frankly, I’m not worried.  While we may not win, considering some of the people who sing for these things, I know we won’t lose to the two of them.  And depending on what song me and Mike choose, I get to wear another costume.  Though I don’t think I’ll be dying myself green again.  Not unless I find an easier way to do it, anyway.

Lol.  Yeah, I’m still green.  I got a lot of it off yesterday with a washrag, some soap, and scrubbing, so a shower should get the rest.  In a way it’s too bad.  I’d love to walk into Domino’s and be like, "Brains . . . brains!!!"  Lol.  Cuz I really do look like a zombie.  But then I’d have to deliver to people looking like this.  As interesting as that’d be . . . Uh, no.

Anyway, I’m going through my CD’s, trying to find a good girl/guy duet song.  It’s unfortunate that we have some restricions on us.  Both Mike’s and my voices are affected by the smoke, so we can’t pick a song that’s too high on either part.  I mean, my second song, No Good Deed, I cracked on the last note, and that song is fully within my range.

Okay, this is the entry.  Yay!  I’ve finally written one for the first time in awhile.  Okay, back to the duet songs . . .

Hey…Sorry you did not win the contest. I wish I could have been there to see your final performance, but I was home with a really high fever and an ear infection. But I’m sure you kicked ass. I don’t have any ideas for a performance for you and Mike, other than your notorious Phantom performance. That was always a crowd pleaser. I hope everything in your life is doing good. We need to catch up

eventually. But it seems like both of our schedules conflict lately. But we’ll have to make time eventually..hopefully before I go back to school and get way too busy to see anyone.

That sounds fun. You are so lucky to have the guts to get up on stage and sing in front of people! My voice is so horrible that people would throw tomatoes at me! My favorite girl – guy duet is “Is it Written in the Stars”. What about that one? That’s a beautiful song. 🙂

It works because autistic kids live in their own little world. By joining them, you become part of that world and they are able to reach out to you. Then, little by little you help them leave their world and join yours. If you think about it, it makes more sense than any other therapy out there because the others all push and force the kids to do what they want.

And what’s the natural reaction to someone trying to force you to do something? You want to do the opposite. Son-Rise never forces the kid in any way. If you want to know more, you should read the book. And no way, If I totally threw down, I could out sing you. :0)
