The Majestic

Okay, so this is a Jim Carrey movie that I’ve wanted to check out for months.  Possibly years.  Whenever it was that I saw the ad for it in a preview of another movie I was watching.  Anyway, I picked it up from Barnes and Noble a few days ago, (I now have over fifty DVD’s, if anyone cares, which I don’t think anyone does,) and watched it that night.

In it, Jim Carrey plays absolutley the "straight man."  It’s not a comedic movie, it’s more drama-oriented.  Not bad drama, though.  Anyway.  I absolutley loved it.  It truly showed exactly how versatile an actor Jim Carrey actually is.  I mean, one scene, it called for him to cry, and he did.  You can say whatever you want about acting, but if a scene calls for someone to cry and they can manage it, then they are a good actor/actress.

I thought the movie, obviously, was positively the best Jim Carrey movie I have ever seen.

Oh, and I believe it was the same night that I bought Majestic, I also bought Without A Clue.  Picture what would happen if Sherlock Holmes was a fictional character, written about by the true genius, Dr. Watson.  Watson has made his character of Holmes famous and everyone thinks he’s real and that Watson is the secondary sidekick.  Now imagine that to get anyone to take him seriously, Watson has had to hire an out of work, drunken actor to play the part of Holmes, with Watson feeding him a script, sometimes right on the spot.

That’s Without A Clue.  It’s a great movie.  At one point, Watson fakes his death, though Holmes doesn’t know it, and Holmes is left to fend for himself.  He’s writing on a chalk board, trying to figure out what Moriarty is up to.  Hours later, he yells, "I’ve got it!  His real name is Arty Morty!"

Then before that, there’s one part that Dolly would love.  Holmes falls through the door!  Lol.

Not much else has been going on with me that’s noteworthy.  I’ve recovered from that cold, thank God, and I’ve been working.  Made about eighty bucks more than I expected for my paycheck this time, which was really nice.  And I’ve made about ninety bucks in tuips in the past two days.  On Wednesday, Mike and I hopeto get up to hisdad and grandma’s, where I’ll take Mike’s dad to a Barnes and Noble up there.  So I’m socking tip money away to use up there.  More DVD’s!!  All mine, do you hear me??  All mine!!!

I remember renting and watching The Majestic with my sis and when Jim’s character met his father. I said something that made my sis laugh hard. I muted the tv and the scene was where he met his father and when his father was talking I said something like “Luke I am your father”,hahaha. So funny, lol.

RYN – About the quotes… I was doing them from memory… so I didn’t expect to get every word in place since my memory often sucks! But thanks for helping me out. 😛 I always thought I would be good at acting because I can cry whenever I want to. If someone tells me to act sad and cry, I can do it. I always thought it was cool and annoying at the same time that I can cry so easily.

I prefer Jim Carrey in his comedic roles and for his silly comedic value – but yes, the Majestic was a good movie. Surprisingly. Usually those movies bore me to death!

I love The Majestic! It’s a sin that people have pigeonholed Jim Carrey, because like you said, he’s so versatile. The Truman Show is another good one, or have you seen it already? ~
